Research on Music teachers’ attitude in the Secondary classroom towards musical audition and the way it is approached in curricular textbooks
2014
Teaching How to Write Essays in Secondary Education: Didactic Sequences Analysis
2021
[EN] The development of the writing expression competence, and in particular, the argumentative competence has awoken interest among the different educational levels. The essay has been studied from different pers-pectives in Secondary Education, however there are not any studies on how books teach the writing process at this level, where the mini-essay format is actually worked on more. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to learn more about the examples of didactic sequences to teach how to write essays/mini-essays in textbooks of third and fourth year of Secondary Education. The methodology applied is the analysis of the qualitative content and the gathering of information fro…
A Unified Perspective on the Dynamics of Axisymmetric Hurricanes and Monsoons
2006
Abstract This paper provides a unified perspective on the dynamics of hurricane- and monsoonlike vortices by identifying them as specific limiting cases of a more general flow system. This more general system is defined as stationary axisymmetric balanced flow of a stably stratified non-Boussinesq atmosphere on the f plane. The model is based on the primitive equations assuming gradient wind balance in the radial momentum equation. The flow is forced by heating in the vortex center, which is implemented as relaxation toward a specified equilibrium temperature Te. The flow is dissipated through surface friction, and it is assumed to be almost inviscid in the interior. The heating is assumed …
Nitrogen plasma pressure influence on the composition of TiNxOy sputtered films
2002
Thin films of TiNxOy were deposited by d.c. magnetron sputtering on glass substrates using an (Ar+,N2) plasma and Ti target. The N2 partial pressure was changed from 2.3 × 10−4 mbar to 4.6 × 10−3 mbar in order to obtain films with increasing nitrogen contents. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was used to determine the as-deposited composition. The presence of oxygen, which is probably due to contamination from the residual atmosphere in the vacuum chamber, is always detected, both in the surface layers and in the bulk of the films, confirming the formation of TiNxOy. When the nitrogen partial pressure was increased, a maximum for the nitrogen content in the films was reached, corresponding …
Identification of Clusters of Investors from Their Real Trading Activity in a Financial Market
2011
We use statistically validated networks, a recently introduced method to validate links in a bipartite system, to identify clusters of investors trading in a financial market. Specifically, we investigate a special database allowing to track the trading activity of individual investors of the stock Nokia. We find that many statistically detected clusters of investors show a very high degree of synchronization in the time when they decide to trade and in the trading action taken. We investigate the composition of these clusters and we find that several of them show an over-expression of specific categories of investors.
Effect of priming with diphtheria and tetanus toxoids combined with whole-cell pertussis vaccine or with acellular pertussis vaccine on the safety an…
1995
Objective: To evaluate the safety and the immunogenicity of a booster dose of recombinant acellular pertussis vaccine combined with diphtheria and tetanus toxoids (DTaP, Biocine SpA) in 15- to 21-month-old children primed in infancy with either whole-cell diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (DTwP) vaccine or DTaP vaccine. Design: Open-label second phase of a double-masked, controlled trail, with masked analysis of serum samples. Participants and setting: Three hundred fifty children, 15 to 21 months of age, who had been primed at 2, 4, and 6 months of age with either three doses of DTaP vaccine (n = 173) or DTwP vaccine (n = 177). The children were enrolled in eight vaccination centers in Italy. I…
Analysing the Spanish smoke-free legislation of 2006: a new method to quantify its impact using a dynamic model.
2011
Background: There are many models that study aspects of smoking habits: the influence of price, tax, relapse time, and the effects of prohibition. There are also studies examining the effects of the Spanish smoke-free law. We wanted to build a model able to separate the effect of the law from the pre-law evolution of smoking habits. Methods: Using data from the Spanish Ministry of Health and Social Policy, we developed a dynamic model of tobacco use. The model projects the evolution over time of the number of non-smokers, smokers and ex-smokers before 2006. Then, we compared the predictions of the model with data for the years after the law came into force, 2006 and 2009. Results: We show t…
