Research opportunities in performance measurement in public utilities regulation

2015

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to propose a method to choose a set of scientific articles about performance measurement in public utilities regulation. The method is designed to identify references with high academic relevance in databases accessed via the internet, and, through these articles, to perform a mapping of these publications and conduct a systemic analysis. Design/methodology/approach – The study is characterized as exploratory and descriptive with a qualitative and quantitative approach. Incorporates an inductive logic, and draws on primary and secondary data sources. The research involves the application of a technical procedure for selection and study of selected art…

Surface hysteresis curves of Fe(110) and Fe(100) crystals in ultrahigh vacuum — evidence of adsorbate influences

1992

Abstract We have investigated hysteresis curves of silicon-stabilized Fe(100) and Fe(110) crystals using Polarized Secondary Electron Emission (PSEE) for surface magnetization processes and Magneto-Optical Kerr Effect (MOKE) for bulk hysteresis curves. In particular, the influence of adsorbates (oxygen and sulphur) and surface roughness on the magnetization reversal has been studied. For surface hysteresis curves we found adsorbate-induced reductions of coercive force of up to 50%; the bulk hysteresis curves showed significantly smaller deviations. Similar changes were caused by surface disorder on an atomic scale induced by ion bombardment. The results agree qualitatively with a previous e…

A Function Algebra Providing New Mergelyan Type Theorems in Several Complex Variables

2019

For compact sets $K\subset \mathbb C^{d}$, we introduce a subalgebra $A_{D}(K)$ of $A(K)$, which allows us to obtain Mergelyan type theorems for products of planar compact sets as well as for graphs of functions.

A questionnaire to collect unintended effects of transcranial magnetic stimulation: A consensus based approach

2022

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) has been widely used in both clinical and research practice. However, TMS might induce unintended sensations and undesired effects as well as serious adverse effects. To date, no shared forms are available to report such unintended effects. This study aimed at developing a questionnaire enabling reporting of TMS unintended effects. A Delphi procedure was applied which allowed consensus among TMS experts. A steering committee nominated a number of experts to be involved in the Delphi procedure. Three rounds were conducted before reaching a consen-sus. Afterwards, the questionnaire was publicized on the International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiolo…

CORPORATE IDENTITY WITHIN THE HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY

2012

The objective of the paper is to research the latest literature on the corporate identity concept, its definition and dimensions, and general strategic management framework in the context of health care industry enterprises – hospitals and private clinics. The novelty of the paper is bringing together the framework of corporate identity concept with available research on the management of the health care organizations. This paper brings together findings by both, corporate identity researchers (Melewar; Balmer) and internationally recognised corporate identity development practitioners (Olins), and reflects strategic management frameworks related to the health care industry and its identity…

Ethnicity and Educational Inequality: An investigation of School Experience in Australia and France. Ethnicité et inégalité scolaire : une enquête su…

2008

This thesis examines the contribution of ‘ethnic' background to the school experiences of educationally and socially disadvantaged students in the senior years of high school (n=927). To investigate the role both of ethnic identification and its interplay with institutional factors, a comparative analysis of secondary student experiences in two national settings was undertaken. The case of Turkish-background students in Australia and France suggests that the influences of ethnic identity are thoroughly transformed from one setting to the other by distinctive pedagogical structures. Streaming and severe academic judgement in France lower academic self-esteem, while creating resentment and so…

Monotonicity and enclosure methods for the p-Laplace equation

2018

We show that the convex hull of a monotone perturbation of a homogeneous background conductivity in the $p$-conductivity equation is determined by knowledge of the nonlinear Dirichlet-Neumann operator. We give two independent proofs, one of which is based on the monotonicity method and the other on the enclosure method. Our results are constructive and require no jump or smoothness properties on the conductivity perturbation or its support.

Enclosure method for the p-Laplace equation

2014

We study the enclosure method for the p-Calder\'on problem, which is a nonlinear generalization of the inverse conductivity problem due to Calder\'on that involves the p-Laplace equation. The method allows one to reconstruct the convex hull of an inclusion in the nonlinear model by using exponentially growing solutions introduced by Wolff. We justify this method for the penetrable obstacle case, where the inclusion is modelled as a jump in the conductivity. The result is based on a monotonicity inequality and the properties of the Wolff solutions.

Daugavet- and delta-points in Banach spaces with unconditional bases

2020

We study the existence of Daugavet- and delta-points in the unit sphere of Banach spaces with a 1 1 -unconditional basis. A norm one element x x in a Banach space is a Daugavet-point (resp. delta-point) if every element in the unit ball (resp. x x itself) is in the closed convex hull of unit ball elements that are almost at distance 2 2 from x x . A Banach space has the Daugavet property (resp. diametral local diameter two property) if and only if every norm one element is a Daugavet-point (resp. delta-point). It is well-known that a Banach space with the Daugavet property does not have an unconditional basis. Similarly spaces with the diametral local diameter two property do not have an un…

Arts. 34-40 EIR

2016

The comments on Arts. 34-40 of EU Regulation 2015/848 deal with opening of secondary insolvency proceedings. These comments systematically tackle the prerequisites required for the opening of secondary insolvency proceedings, the relationship between main and secondary proceedings and the duties of cooperation that are put on the courts and the insolvency practitioners of both main and secondary proceedings. A particular attention is devoted to the introduction of the so-called “Undertaking to Avoid the Opening of Secondary Insolvency Proceedings” (Art. 36).
