Rotavirus Genotypes in Sewage Treatment Plants and in Children Hospitalized with Acute Diarrhea in Italy in 2010 and 2011

ABSTRACT Although the molecular surveillance network RotaNet-Italy provides useful nationwide data on rotaviruses causing severe acute gastroenteritis in children in Italy, scarce information is available on rotavirus circulation in the general Italian population, including adults with mild or asymptomatic infection. We investigated the genotypes of rotaviruses present in urban wastewaters and compared them with those of viral strains from clinical pediatric cases. Enteric calicivirus and rotavirus infections in domestic pigs

SUMMARYWe report the prevalence of rotavirus and calicivirus infections, along with their respective association with diarrhoea in the porcine population of the region of northern Spain. A total of 221 samples were collected at random from different farms in the region and from the main slaughterhouse facility in the city of Zaragoza. Genetic heterogeneity of porcine enteric caliciviruses identified from diarrhoeic piglets

Enteric caliciviruses (noroviruses and sapoviruses) are responsible for the majority of non-bacterial gastroenteritis in humans of all age groups. Analysis of the polymerase and capsid genes has provided evidence for a huge genetic diversity, but the understanding of their ecology is limited. In this study, we investigated the presence of porcine enteric caliciviruses in the faeces of piglets with diarrhoea. Saliva testing after single and chronic administration of dihydrocodeine.

In the present study, concentrations of dihydrocodeine and its metabolites in saliva and serum were compared after single low-dose and chronic high-dosage administration of the drug. In the first investigation, blood and saliva were collected periodically from six subjects after oral administration of 60 mg dihydrocodeine. The conventional theory proposes that evolution of virulence is highly dependent on the efficiency of direct host-to-host transmission. The soldier frontal gland secretion ofNasutitermes princeps induces strong short-range caste-specific alarm and attraction in both soldiers and workers. Soldiers are excited and patrol the surroundings of the source. The secretion per se does not induce ejection of additional secretion. Large workers of the second stage or older are massively attracted when tested in homogeneous groups. They focus their activities much more accurately than the soldiers around the source. Annexin 1 (Ax 1), a protein whose synthesis and secretion are induced during the inflammatory response, has been proposed as a mediator of the anti-inflammatory action of glucocorticoids. To gain insight into a broader role of Ax 1 during the inflammatory response, the authors have investigated how pro-inflammatory cytokines [interleukin 1 (IL-1), IL-6 and tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha)] affect Ax 1 expression and regulation at transcriptional and translational levels. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of male and female protein extracts after cuticle wiping revealed three major bands.
