Multi-wave, multi-variable models of job insecurity: applying different scales in studying the stability of job insecurity

2001

The study had two specific targets: first, to examine the stability of job insecurity by utilizing three-year longitudinal data (n = 109) collected in Finland and, second, to clarify psychometric properties of four job insecurity scales, i.e., the global scale, the importance scale, the probability scale and the powerlessness scale. The study was carried out by means of questionnaires, which were answered on three occasions. Analyses were conducted using multi-wave, multi-variable models which were estimated and tested via the LISREL program. Generally, the results showed that job insecurity remained relatively stable during the follow-up period, although there were some variations in the s…

Perceived job insecurity among dual-earner couples: Do its antecedents vary according to gender, economic sector and the measure used?

2002

The aim of the study was to examine the experience and the antecedent factors of job insecurity in dual-earner couples in Finland. The data were obtained by questionnaire from a sample of 387 married or cohabiting dual-earner couples in Spring 1999. Job insecurity was defined from three viewpoints: job uncertainty, the worry over job continuity, and the probability of job-related changes. The results showed that the experience and the antecedents of job insecurity varied according to the economic sector, gender and the scale used. Generally, perceived job insecurity was more common in the private than in the public sector. Female partners were more uncertain about their job future than male…

Seven work-related content categories were found on the basis of qualitative data analysis: (1) competence goals (30.5%), (2) progression goals (23.7%), (3) well-being goals (15.2%), (4) job change goals (13.7%), (5) job security goals (7.4%), (6) organizational goals (5.6%), and (7) financial goa…

The role of goal pursuit in the interaction between psychosocial work environment and occupational well-being

2010

Abstract The relation of the core components of the Effort–Reward Imbalance model (ERI; Siegrist, 1996 ) to goal pursuit was investigated. Goal pursuit was studied through categories of goal contents – competency, progression, well-being, job change, job security, organization, finance, or no work goal – based on the personal work goals of managers ( Hyvonen, Feldt, Salmela-Aro, Kinnunen, & Makikangas, 2009 ). The study focused on the contribution of the ERI components (effort, reward, effort–reward imbalance, OVC) to goal contents, as well as on the mediating and moderating effects of goal contents between the ERI components and occupational well-being (burnout, work engagement) among youn…

Long-Term Reward Patterns Contribute to Personal Goals at Work Among Finnish Managers

2016

The research addresses the impact of long-term reward patterns on contents of personal work goals among young Finnish managers ( N = 747). Reward patterns were formed on the basis of perceived and objective career rewards (i.e., career stability and promotions) across four measurements (years 2006–2012). Goals were measured in 2012 and classified into categories of competence, progression, well-being, job change, job security, organization, and financial goals. The factor mixture analysis identified a three-class solution as the best model of reward patterns: high rewards (77%), increasing rewards (17%), and reducing rewards (7%). Participants with reducing rewards reported more progressio…

Conceptual Characterization of Cybersecurity Ontologies

2020

Part 7:Risk and Security Modeling; International audience; Cybersecurity is known as the practice of protecting systems from digital attacks. Organizations are seeking efficient solutions for the management and protection of their assets. It is a complex issue, especially for great enterprises, because it requires an interdisciplinary approach. The kinds of problems enterprises must deal with and this domain complexity induces misinterpretations and misunderstandings about the concepts and relations in question. This article focus on dealing with Cybersecurity from an ontological perspective. The first contribution is a search of previously existing works that have defined Cybersecurity Ont…

Employability and job insecurity: The role of personal resources on work-related stress

2021

This study is aimed to assess the effect of both employability and personal resources, in terms of pro-activity and self-efficacy, on the relationship between job insecurity and psycho-social distress. Using survey data from 211 participants, among employed, unemployed and workers in transition, we analyzed the incidence of employability, pro-activity and self-efficacy on psycho-social distress. Our results showed that the above-mentioned variables significantly differed by participants’ gender and age. The structural theoretical model proposed to assess the significance of the hypothesized paths exhibited good fit with the data. Thus, all our hypotheses were supported. Findings are in line…

Public-Private Partnership: Transaction Costs of Tendering

2016

Abstract What are the transaction costs of participating in a public-private partnership (PPP) tender? Prior research indicate that there is a significant amount of resources required. However, few researchers seem to measure transaction costs directly. The purpose of this paper is therefore to fill this knowledge gap by presenting estimated transaction costs from both public and private actors. The underlying approach for this research was a case study of a new primary school in Norway. This case was chosen because of the expedient access to detailed information of the tendering process. The main source of data was documents and estimated figures obtained from public and private actors inv…

Decentralized Lightweight Group Key Management for Dynamic Access Control in IoT Environments

2020

Rapid growth of Internet of Things (IoT) devices dealing with sensitive data has led to the emergence of new access control technologies in order to maintain this data safe from unauthorized use. In particular, a dynamic IoT environment, characterized by a high signaling overhead caused by subscribers' mobility, presents a significant concern to ensure secure data distribution to legitimate subscribers. Hence, for such dynamic environments, group key management (GKM) represents the fundamental mechanism for managing the dissemination of keys for access control and secure data distribution. However, existing access control schemes based on GKM and dedicated to IoT are mainly based on ce…
