Learning to be a psychostimulants addict with self-regulation therapy

This article presents the results of a single-case experiment of alternative treatments in which a participant applied the Self-Regulation Therapy (SRT) to reproduce the effects of a stimulant drug, methylphenidate, and a sedative, alcohol. The SRT is a learning procedure based on classic conditioning and suggestion that reproduces the effect of drugs by remembering the effects they have. The participant reproduced the effects of both drugs during ten sessions held on 5 consecutive days. AbstractMaintaining an adequate level of sedation and analgesia plays a key role in the management of traumatic brain injury (TBI). To date, it is unclear which drug or combination of drugs is most effective in achieving these goals. Ketamine is an agent with attractive pharmacological and pharmacokinetics characteristics. Current evidence shows that ketamine does not increase and may instead decrease intracranial pressure, and its safety profile makes it a reliable tool in the prehospital environment. In this point of view, we discuss different aspects of the use of ketamine in the acute phase of TBI, with its potential benefits and pitfalls.

Management guidelines for allergic rhinitis and urticaria recommend oral second-generation antihistamines as first-line treatment. The efficacy and safety of bilastine, the newest nonsedating second-generation antihistamine, are well established in adolescents/adults with these allergic conditions. The bilastine development program for pediatric use (2–<12 years) followed EMA-authorized processes. The intense development of the «Verlagssystem» in the XVIII century silk industry in Valencia showed the difficulties of the traditional craftsmen to keep their economic independence. In order to fighy against it, the craftsmen adopted several initiatives, which dealt with the constitution of a share-holding company, as much as with the creation of a communal store to favour the suppley of raw materials to the factories. El presente trabajo se basa en el estudio de los 2.077 nuevos maestros que ingresaron en el colegio del arte mayor de la seda de Valencia entre 1686 y 1755, y revela la complejidad de la evolución que experimentó la corporación. El repliegue en favor del propio colectivo artesanal que se produjo en el reclutamiento de sus miembros como respuesta a las dificultades del siglo XVII no tuvo un carácter definitivo, ya que el crecimiento manufacturero de finales de la centuria favoreció el ingreso de candidatos de una procedencia más diversa.
