Lo studio si propone di fornire un quadro di riferimento delle importazioni di vasi figurati attici a Segesta, analizzando artisti, forme e iconografia di questa produzione. I frammenti di vasi attici a figure rosse provengono dal cosiddetto deposito della Grotta Vanella a Segesta, che consiste di materiali scaricati dalla cima del Monte Barbaro, l'Acropoli del Nord. L'esame dei reperti ceramici ha mostrato una buona varietà di tipologie formali e la prevalenza di specifiche categorie funzionali dedicate al consumo di vino, che si riflette in altre classi ceramiche. The present paper discusses a loom weight with an inscriptions, recently discovered during the study of the finds from Grotta Vanella deposit at Segesta. Firstly, the archaeological context of the loom weight will be illustrated, also in the light of new data that emerged during the recent review of material from the deposit. There follows a discussion of the typology, decorative detail and function of the tool. In Sicily the first service of active protection of monuments was experimented with a law of Ferdinand IV Borbone, who named the princes of Biscari and Torremuzza ‘royal guardians’ and Carlo Chenchi ‘architect of antiquities’. In that period, the temple of Segesta was restored, which had been damaged by lightning in 1726 which struck the eastern façade and a column was built with different stones which, a few years later, was declared too distinguishable. Between June and July 2022, the University of Palermo started new feld investigations in the Contrada Mango sanctuary in Segesta, which, in the 1950s and 1960s, had brought to light a monumental temenos-terracing wall in isodomic technique and the remains of a Doric Severe-Style peripteral temple, largely spoliated at an unknown period. The research focuses on weapons coming from the extra-urban sanctuary of contrada Mango in Segesta, investigated between the fifties and sixties of the 20th century. The study illustrates the types and chronology of the »indigenous« and Greek weapons (mainly defensive) attested in the sanctuary, and clarifies and discusses the location of the finds (along the south, north and east peribolos walls). Finally, the research tries to understand the function and role of the weapons in the sacred area. The contribution illustrates the data obtained from the revision of the so-called Grotta Vanella dump, whose materials are referable to a sacred area located on the North Acropolis of Segesta. So we try to define the cultic and settlement dynamics that have affected the Acropolis from the Archaic to the Classical age.

The study considers some aspects of the sacred of Segesta in the Archaic and Classical periods, linked to socio-cultural practices of ideological value, through the analysis of two archaeological contexts: the sanctuary of Contrada Mango and the sacred area on the North Acropolis, documented by some categories of objects recovered in the so-called huge deposit of Grotta Vanella, consisting of material dumped from the summit of Monte Barbaro.
