"Boire un verre dans un bar...!" - Modulation de l'expérience d'un produit par le contexte. Apport de l'immersion à l'étude des influences contextuel…
2013
The overall aim of the present thesis is to study contextual influences on food behaviour (including variables coming from the environment and from the consumer). To this purpose, an immersive method using a space with physical elements was used, in order to evoke a realistic situation within a laboratory setting. Here, the method consisted in designing an immersive bar evoking the situation of “having a drink in a bar”. Two variants of the bar were created and five studies were implemented in these spaces to study how context influences food choices and evaluation. Our approach consisted in taking the product as central in the link between the consumer and the environment and not as a cont…
A Qualitative and Quantitative Study on Ancient Latin Texts Concerning the Concept of aether : Some Methodological Considerations
2022
My study focuses on the semantic analysis of an ambiguous Latin word, aether, which may roughly be translated as ‘celestial substance’. The study is carried out by utilising both qualitative and quantitative methods on a digital text corpus containing Latin literature dating from ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. In this paper, the compilation process and the contents of the corpus are described. Beside qualitative research (close reading), various computational methods are implemented on the corpus (distant reading). Of the latter, cosine similarity and correspondence analysis are discussed in this paper. I will explicate one way of combining qualitative and quantitative methods by assigning numerica…
HOWERD: A Hidden Markov Model for Automatic OWL-ERD Alignment
2016
The HOWERD model for estimating the most likely alignment between an OWL ontology and an Entity Relation Diagram (ERD) is presented. Automatic alignment between relational schema and ontology represents a big challenge in Semantic Web research due to the different expressiveness of these representations. A relational schema is less expressive than the ontology; this is a non trivial problem when accessing data via an ontology and for ontology storing by means of a relational schema. Existent alignment methodologies fail in loosing some contents of the involved representations because the ontology captures more semantic information, and several elements are left unaligned. HOWERD relies on a…

syntax for Horn-like rules. The SWRL as the form, antecedentconsequent, where both antecedent and consequent are conjunctions of atoms written a1^ ... ^ an. Atoms in rules can be of the form C(x), P(x,y), Q(x,z), sameAs(x,y), differentFrom(x,y), or builtIn(pred, z1, ..., zn), where C is an OWL description, P is an OWL individual-valued property, Q is an OWL data-valued property, pred is a datatype predicate URIref, x and y are either individual-valued variables or OWL individuals, and z, z1, ... zn are either data-valued variables or OWL data literals. An OWL data literal is either a typed literal or a plain literal. Variables are indicated by using the standard convention of prefixing the…
Working with Multiple Ontologies on the Semantic Web.
2016
The standardization of the second generation Web Ontology Language, OWL, leaves a crucial issue for Web-based ontologies unsatisfactorily resolved: how to represent and reason with multiple distinct, but linked, ontologies. OWL provides the owl:imports construct which, roughly, allows Web ontologies to include other Web ontologies, but only by merging all the linked ontologies into a single logical "space". Recent work on multidimensional logics, fusions and other combinations of modal logics, distributed and contextual logics, and the like have tried to find formalisms wherein knowledge bases (and their logic) are kept more distinct but yet affect each other. These formalisms have various …
Le sens du regard Contribution sémiotique à la technique de l'eye-tracking face aux packagings produits
2009
International audience; This work is presenting a semiotic point of view of a promising but problematic tool of the communication field -eye-tracking- which is used in various fields to track and exploit the eye-path on an object. Drawing form a list of eye-paths on various packagings, the first step of the analysis was the identification without theoretical a priori- of fixed patterns in these paths. Several models can then be inferred on how the order of acquisition of the elements of an image or a pack might have an influence on the construction of their overall meaning.; Ce travail propose un point de vue sémiotique sur un outil du champ de la communication prometteur mais problématique…
Naja, normal und normal. Zur Syntax, Semantik und Pragmatik der x-und-x-Konstruktion im Deutschen
2012
This article deals with the syntax, semantics and pragmatics of the x und x (‘x and x’) construction in German, cf. A: Schade, dass die [Schabracken] so teuer sind! B: Naja, teuer und teuer, wenn die Qualitat stimmt, dann finde ich den Preis okay. (A: ‘What a pity that the horsetrappers are so expensive!’ B: ‘Well, expensive and expensive, if the quality is good, the price is fine with me.’). The specific discourse function of this construction is to negotiate the situational meaning of a previously used lexical item. Typologically, it has been claimed that the pattern is language-specific for Scandinavian. The paper challenges this assumption, providing empirical evidence from a questionna…
Effects of Grammatical Structure of Compound Words on Word Recognition in Chinese
2018
Two lexical priming experiments were conducted to examine effects of grammatical structure of Chinese two-constituent compounds on their recognition. The target compound words conformed to two types of grammatical structure: subordinate and coordinative compounds. Subordinate compounds follow a structure where the first constituent modifies the second constituent (e.g., , meaning snowball); here the meaning of the second constituent (head) is modified by the first constituent (modifier). On the other hand, in coordinative compounds both constituents contribute equally to the word meaning (e.g., , wind and rain, meaning storm where the two constituent equally contribute to the word meaning).…

Reversive constructions in Latin: the case of re- (and dis-)
2019
This paper proposes a cognitive account on re- and dis- verbs based on the scrutiny of the Plautine corpus and Cato’s De agricultura. Re- and dis- exhibit significant differences as to the manner in which they come to a reversive function, and these differences can be traced back to the basic conceptual import of the two prefixes: while dis- is schematically connected with the idea of separation into two parts, re- basically refers to a rearward/reditive trajectory, connecting a point that has already been reached to the starting point. On the basis of this description, I analyze the semantic network of re- and dis- and the role of their conceptual structure in the spread from spatial to re…
