A low-level spectrometer with a planar low-energy HPGe: shielding arrangement tests and system performance for 210Pb determination in air filter samp…

2001

A system for low-energy photon spectrometry using a planar germanium detector with appropriate specifications is presented. A spectrometric background investigation has been carried out with various detector shielding arrangements. The characteristics of the system for measurements of 210Pb in air-particulate matter on filters have been determined.

Semiconductor mixed oxides as innovative materials for the photocatalytic removal of organic pollutants

2020

Abstract This work aims to provide a critical survey of the extensive literature concerning the potential applications of nanostructured mixed oxides for environmental remediation. In particular, our attention was focused on the feasibility to employ these materials as photocatalysts for the elimination of toxic organic pollutants contained in water and wastewater. The advantages and perspectives of the various nanocomposites are briefly discussed.

Semiconductor @ sensitizer composites for enhanced photoinduced processes

2021

This Chapter provides an overview of common procedures used for the preparation, characterization, and exploration of photocatalytic properties of composite materials based on inorganic semiconductors in combination with sensitizers, such as porphyrins, phthalocyanines, and related macrocyclic compounds as promoters of photoinduced processes. In this context the advantage of hybrid photocatalysts, obtained by impregnation of photosensitizers onto the surface of different semiconductors, designed for improving a choice of diverse reactions has been demonstrated, highlighting innovative aspects that contribute to better sustainability of the photocatalytic processes. Supramolecular silver polyoxometalate architectures direct the growth of composite semiconducting nanostructures.

2009

Nanosilver on a string: Crystalline silver polyoxovanadate supramolecular architectures are employed as precursors for the synthesis of composite nanowires (see scheme). The nanostructures are composed of semiconducting vanadium oxide which forms wires with high aspect ratios, and are embedded with metallic silver nanoparticles. © 2009 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Failure analysis of normally-off GaN HEMTs under avalanche conditions

2020

Gallium nitride (GaN) high electron-mobility transistors (HEMTs) are promising devices in the power electronics field owing to their wide bandgap (WBG). However, all the potential advantages provided by their WBG require reliability improvement. In industrial applications, robustness is one of the main factors considered by circuit designers. This study focuses on the observation of the degradation behavior of the main waveforms of unclamped inductive-switching (UIS) test circuits of two different commercial GaN HEMT structures. The relevance of this study lies in the potential applications of these devices to high-voltage applications and automotive systems where they are subjected to many…

Size dependent light absorption modulation and enhanced carrier transport in germanium quantum dots devices

2015

Quantum confinement in closely packed arrays of Ge quantum dots (QDs) was studied for energy applications. In this work, we report an efficient tuning mechanism of the light harvesting and detection of Ge QDs. Thin films of SiGeO alloys, produced by rf-magnetron sputtering, were annealed at 600 degrees C in N-2 to induce precipitation of small amorphous Ge QDs into the oxide matrix. Varying the Ge content, the QD size was tailored between 2 and 4 nm, as measured by high resolution transmission electron microscopy. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements indicate the formation of pure SiO2, as well as the presence of a sub-stoichiometric Ge oxide shell at the QD interface. Light …

Managing coopetition in diversified firms: Insights from a qualitative case study

2022

Abstract Cooperation among divisions is usually thought to explain the performance of diversification strategies. However, such divisions are also in competition. Through the in-depth analysis of an intraindustry diversified firm operating in the global semiconductor industry, this paper identifies the sources of coopetition and the treatment of coopetitive tensions among divisions in the production allocation process. We find a multipoint origin of cooperation within a competitive setting. Then, we extend a previous study that considers uniquely two substitute views: (a) corporate-centric; and (b) division-centric. Additionally, by employing formal organizational mechanisms, we show that c…

A novel pro-apoptotic role of zinc octacarboxyphthalocyanine in melanoma me45 cancer cell's photodynamic therapy (PDT)

2018

Abstract Zn-based phthalocyanine acts as drug or photosensitizer in photodynamic therapy (PDT) for the treatment of cancer cells. The activated zinc octacarboxyphthalocyanine (ZnPcOC) reacts with oxygen, to generate reactive oxygen species for the damage of melanoma cancer cells, Me45. This in vitro study aimed at investigating the cytotoxic effects of different concentrations of ZnPcOC activated with a diode laser (λ = 685 nm) on Me45, and normal human fibroblast cells, NHDF. To perform this study 104 cells/ml were seeded in 96-well plates and allowed to attach overnight, after which cells were treated with different concentrations of ZnPcOC (10, 20 and 30 μM). After 4 h, cells were irradi…

Spin polarization in electrodeposited thin films of the molecule-based magnetic semiconductor Cr5.5(CN)12·11.5H2O

2013

The magnetoresistance (MR) effect of thin films of the Prussian Blue Analogue (PBA) Cr5.5(CN)12·11.5H2O, prepared by electrochemical deposition, has been measured using the standard two-point probe method. This molecule-based ferrimagnetic material, with a Tc = 240 K, exhibits MR up to 2% at 6 T and 200 K.
