Errors d?edició : dels manuscrits als diccionaris. Exemples de textos mèdics medievals (Hipòcrates, Arnau de Vilanova, Bernat de Gordon, misser Joan)
2017
The commonly used Catalan lexicons (DCVB, DECLC, the vocabulary of Lluis Faraudo de Saint-Germain) collect words and give them meaning from ancient editions of texts. Lexicographers’ performance had its own logic: they used the documentary sources they had at their disposal when they set up to write their works. The advances in philological research (new critical editions, new sources of information) allow us to refine results and detect errors that occurred in old editions and went into dictionaries. Wrong lexemes were included, as well as incorrect or insufficient definitions. This article offers examples of it, out of four medical works. On the one hand, the Catalan translations of the R…

I Puffi nella foresta segreta
2017

Under the umbrella
2017
The inclusion of Internet Gaming Disorder as a preliminary diagnosis subsumed in Section III of the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) has provoked mixed reactions. On the one hand, it has been appreciated as an important sign stressing the negative health-related impact of that disorder. Likewise, the definition of diagnostic criteria helps scientists and clinicians to refer to mandatory indicators associated with a health problem. On the other hand, it has been objected that this new diagnosis bears the danger of pathologizing normal behaviors that are a feature of healthy recreational activity for many people. However, the existence of diag…
From Thinking to Raging: Reflexes of Indo-European *men- Polysemy in Homer
2020
This paper aims at investigating the semantic value of the verb μαίνομαι “to rage, to be furious” in Homeric Greek, in order to clarify the striking semantic relationship between the common ‘irrational’ meaning of the verb and the original ‘rational’ meaning of the Indo-European root *men- “to think”, to which the verb traces back. The corresponding words for μαίνομαι in other Indo-European languages (e.g. OInd. mányatē; Av. mainyeite; OIr. (do)moiniur; OCS mъnjo; Lit. miniu) can be translated as “to think”, thus showing an opposite meaning. From a textual analysis of all the occurrences of μαίνομαι in the Iliad and the Odyssey, the study aims at finding semantic traces of the original mean…

Fragmentos de um discurso político. Intervenções críticas
2019
This essay argues for the pertinence of the semiotic view on politics, as well as the political character of research in semiotics. Through about the discursive organization in contemporary politics, and the idea of political discourse, the author elaborates analyses and reflections on themes and passions with which he identifies a specific way for semiotics to answer the questions promoted by the field of politics. To this end, the author elaborates analyses and reflections on themes and passions with which he identifies a specific way for semiotics to answer the questions promoted by the field of politics. The work also aims to deconstruct myths and naturalized meanings. Such semiotic ges…
Accidents and explosions in semiotic research in Italy. Introductory notes
2022
A history of Italian semiotics has yet to be written. This issue therefore has completely different aspirations: more than a history, or even less a geography, its intended goal is that of self-analysis of, roughly speaking, the last twenty or twenty-five years. Something like this: let us stop for a moment, let us see where we have sown our seeds, and what we have reaped, what we still need to plan, and in which direction we will proceed. The essays collected here do just that: they outline the conceptual map of semiotic research in Italy, combining research themes, methods of investigation and, when they may overlap, research centres scattered throughout the country. So, Italian semiotics…
