The plasma membrane (PM) is arguably the most diverse membrane of the plant cell. Furthermore, the protein and lipid composition of the PM varies with cell type, developmental stage, and environment. Physical properties of lipids and associate proteins allow the formation of a barrier that is selectively permeable to macromolecules and solutes. Fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl-N-methylamino Acids Synthesized in a Flow Tube-in-Tube Reactor with a Liquid-Liquid Semipermeable Membrane

Both steps of the N-methylation of 9-fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl (Fmoc) amino acids were carried out in a microstructured tube-in-tube reactor equipped with a semipermeable Teflon® AF 2400 membrane as the inner tubing. In the first step, gaseous formaldehyde was passed through the inner membrane to effect the acid-catalyzed conversion of the Fmoc amino acids into the corresponding N-Fmoc oxazolidinones. In the second step, liquid–liquid transfer of trifluoroacetic acid was used for the first time in such a reactor for the reductive opening of these oxazolidinones to give Fmoc N-methylamino acids in high yields.

Microwave-assisted extraction of OCPs, PCBs and PAHs concentrated by semi-permeable membrane devices (SPMDs)

Abstract Microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) has been evaluated as an alternative to dialysis for extraction of some water-borne hydrophobic contaminants sampled by semi-permeable membrane devices (SPMDs). Seven organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), 11 polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and 13 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were accumulated in SPMDs at nanogram levels and extracted with three 3-min irradiation cycles with 33 mL of a solvent mixture hexane–water (10:1,v/v) in each cycle. Surface modification of graphite+polymer composite and ITO electrodes by Nafion®+cupromeronic phthalocyanine films

Abstract The surface of indium tin oxide (ITO) and graphite+polymer composite electrodes can be modified by Nafion ® films containing a little amount of dispersed electroactive substances, such as phthalocyanines. This procedure allows the recovery of electroanalytical information on the electroactive deposited substance. The preparation methods for these types of modified electrodes are discussed from the voltammetric results obtained in this work. The Nafion ® net acts as a permeable membrane to the hydrogen ions. Furthermore, the presence of methylviologen within the Nafion ® film makes the electron transport throughout this membrane easy.
