The characteristics of Menippean satire in Seneca, Lucianus and Erasmus

Tämän pro gradu -tutkielman tarkoitus oli selvittää kreikkalais-roomalaisen menippolaisen satiirin lajityypilliset piirteet neljän esimerkkiteoksen (kahden latinankielisen ja kahden kreikankielisen) sekä muiden asiaan vaikuttavien dokumenttien pohjalta. Tutkimusmateriaalina olivat Senecan (4-65 jKr.) menippolais-satiiri Apocolocyntosis, Erasmus Rotterdamilaisen (1469-1536) Julius exclusus e coelis sekä kreikaksi kirjoittaneen Lukianoksen (120-180) satiirit lkaromenippos ja Nekyomanteia. Roomalaisen valtiomiehen ja filosofin, Lucius Annaeus Senecan (n. 5 eaa.-65 jaa.), ystävälleen Luciliukselle omistama kirjekokoelma Epistulae morales on yksi latinankielisen kirjallisuuden merkittävimpiä teoksia. Seneca vastaavasti on hopealatinan ajan kirjallisuuden merkittävimpiä auktoreita. Kokoelman kirjeet on kirjoitettu Senecan viimeisinä elinvuosina ja niiden asiasisältö on pääasiassa filosofinen. Tutkielmassani selvitän kirjekokoelmasta löytyviä esimerkkejä avaamalla kysymystä siitä, oliko Senecan ja Luciliuksen välinen kirjeenvaihto reaalista vai oliko kirjemuoto vain Senecan käyttämä tyylikeino.
