The visual principle and the correlation between teaching of the Catholic religion and art education in Polish school

2017

Contemporary culture – as already noted – is becoming more and more visual. Contemporary catechesis, referring to its rich, centuries-long experience, should also use different types of images. The first part of this article presents the visual principle as one of basic educating principles, and the second part presents the correlation between the teaching of Catholic religion, and art education in Polish schools. One specific example of using religious painting are in textbooks. Masterpieces of painting, created during centuries and expressing particular desires of their creators, still remain an important inspiration, among others, to the religious search. Faith, though strongly anchored …

From the unity of sensible intuition to the sensible unity of intuition : revisiting the proof-structure of Kant?s B-Deduction argument

2019

The B-Deduction accounts for Kant’s utmost solution at safeguarding both the distinctiveness and a necessary relation between understanding and sensibility. I aim at proposing an original thesis to the debate on this solution: the B-Deduction argument profits from a methodology correlating the unity of sensible intuition to the sensible unity of intuition. At first, Kant’s definition of “transcendental cognition” is set forth. Secondly, an inquiry into the argument’s methodology is carried out. After that, the justification of the categories within the understanding’s domain is taken into account. Finally, the relation of the understanding to sensibility is brought into discussion.

Evaluation of the improvement of sensibility with the new IOL Master software version 5.4.3

2009

Purpose To evaluate the improvement of sensibility of the new IOL-Master version 5.4.3 compared with the version 4.08. Methods 214 eyes of 115 patients were examined in a cataract preoperative evaluation making use of both IOL-Master software versions 5.4.3 and 4.08. The type and severity of the lens opacification was assessed by slitlamp biomicroscopy. Results In 182 of the eyes examined both versions were capable to determine the AL; in 29 the version 4.01 could not determine AL whereas the version 5.4.3 was able to measure it; these cases showed posterior capsular cataract (16), dense nuclear cataract (11), posterior synechiae (1) and asteroid hyalosis (1). Finally, the AL of 3 eyes coul…

Il corpo come strumento della sensibilità: riflessioni sul conoscere e il sentire fra estetica e fisiologia

2016

Since its origins, the controversial relationship between sensible knowledge and conceptual knowledge is a central problem of aesthetics. The reflections of A.G. Baumgarten, the “father of modern aesthetics”, played a key role for the revaluation of senses and corporeity, although, in his works, the constructability of aesthetics is not extended to physiological topics yet. In this article we aim to understand the role played by senses and body structure in all living beings, from unicellular organisms to human beings; at the same time, we try to understand the importance of senses for environmental comprehension, adopting a morphological perspective and keeping together philosophical and s…

Sulla fortuna di «Misero pargoletto»: materiali e ipotesi

2020

The aria "Misero pargoletto", sung by Timante in the third act of Pietro Metastasio's "Demofoonte", enjoyed exceptional fortune throughout the eighteenth century. The text was set tu music dozens of times not only as part of the opera it belongs to, but also as an independent piece. This essay discusses the judgements expressed on "Misero pargoletto" by several men of letters and theorists, examines some buffo parodies of the aria that demonstrate its wide notoriety, and formulates some hypotheses about the reasons for such a great success, which can be partially justified by the new conception of fatherood that emerged in the so-called Age of Sensibility.

Estetica e vita quotidiana. Prospettive di ricercar-azione negli studi umanistici

2020

The interplay of interoceptive accuracy, facets of interoceptive sensibility, and trait anxiety: A network analysis

2021

Abstract Interoception is the sense of the body's physiological state. Both the ability to accurately perceive bodily signals, and the self-reported sensibility for the body were assumed to be reciprocally associated with negative affect. Up to now, the specific interplay between dimensions of interoception and negative affect remains largely unknown. We investigated the interplay of cardioceptive accuracy assessed by a heartbeat tracking task, facets of interoceptive sensibility as measured by the Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness, and trait anxiety as measured by the trait version of the State-Trait-Anxiety inventory across two studies (n = 243) using a network analyt…

What is “critical” about critical theory? I claim that, to be “critical enough”, critical theory’s future depends on being able to handle today’s planetary climate crisis, which presupposes a philo...

Libri, spazi, atmosfere tra immaginazione e realtà

2021

The essay focuses on libraries, weaving fiction and reality. Taking two novels as an occasional cue, La bibliothèque des amants by André Miquel and Firmino by Sam Savage, the paper analyzes the architectural and relational elements that in a library generate repelling or welcoming atmospheres, in the light of the aesthetics of the atmos…

Bridging Art and Mathematics: Introduction

2017

There is a long history of interdisciplinary discussions on the relations between science, mathematics, geometry, art, aesthetics, and artistic praxes. These discussions remain active and pertinent today: the aforementioned relations are explored in various scientific communities, journals, and at conferences. Globally, numerous scholars and artists share a common interest in combining creative thinking, intellectual curiosity, and aesthetic sensibility in their work. Various experts working in different scientific and technological fields are inspired by phenomena that combine mathematical and artistic qualities. Respectively, several contemporary artists, graphic designers, craftsmen, and…
