Abstract Objectives : Partial contributions of intracranial and extracranial circulation to rheoencephalography (REG) remain uncertain. The main goal of this work is to determine theoretically the capability of REG techniques to reflect intracranial blood flow. Methods : Head and current injection electrodes were computationally modeled to assess REG sensitivity to brain and scalp conductivity changes. Data obtained were related to tissue perfusions to calculate the partial contribution of cerebral blood perfusion to REG I, REG II and monopolar REG and to assess their amplitudes. Application of Imprinted Synthetic Polymers in Binding Assay Development

The first part of the review describes a method for the synthesis of molecularly imprinted polymers for use in binding assays. The method considers the many factors involved that affect the recognition properties of the materials and describes an approach to screening and optimization of these factors. The second part describes the development of binding assays using such polymers. This includes the use of different labels, the effect of solvent and buffer, the scale of the assay (amount of solid polymer), and how these influence the quality of the assay in terms of sensitivity, selectivity, and speed of analysis.
Polymer-doped UHF RFID tag for wireless-sensing of humidity

Passive UHF RFID tags, beside item labelling, are also able to exploit capability of sensing the physical state of the tagged object as well as of the surrounding environment. Here a family of polymer-doped tags are proposed and fully characterized for the detection of ambient humidity. A sensitive chemical species based on PEDOT:PSS is used to dope a properly shaped slot carved into a folded-like patch tag. Indirect analysis of urea herbicides from environmental water using solid-phase microextraction.

We described here a solid-phase microextraction procedure used to extract six urea pesticides-- chlorsulfuron, fluometuron, isoproturon, linuron, metobromuron and monuron--from environmental samples. Two polydimethylsiloxanes and a polyacrylate fiber (PA) are compared. The extraction time, pH control, addition of NaCl to the water and the influence of organic matter such as humic acid on extraction efficiency were examined to achieve a sensitive method. Determination was carried out by gas chromatography with nitrogen-phosphorus detection. Photosensitive properties of composite films based on copper chloride in polymer matrix

The composite films based on PMMA and CuCl2 were prepared. Transmission spectra of the films before and after illumination by different laser lines (405, 448, 456 nm) were measured. The reversible character of the composite photosensitivity was fixed. The phenomenon of direct surface relief formation after laser beam illumination of composite films was described. The holographic gratings were recorded by different exposure (200 – 500 J/cm2) in the films with different concentration (8 and 20 wt. %) of copper salt. The film sensitivity dependence on polymer molecular weight was studied. Surface relief of the gratings was measured by AFM.
Synthesis and radical polymerization of novel methacrylates with mesoionic 6-oxo-1,6-dihydropyrimidin-3-ium-4-olates as photosensitive components

New polymerizable mesoionic 6-oxo-1,6-dihydropyrimidin-3-ium-4-olates 5a-f have been synthesized using tosylated 2-hydroxymethyl methacrylate and various thioureas and malonic acids. Radical polymerization of the mesoionic derivatives 5a, c, d, e with AIBN as initiator resulted in soluble polymers, which were used for the preparation of photosensitive films.
No-Flow Temperature in Injection Molding Simulation

Most injection molding simulation packages use the no-flow temperature (NFT) as a means of determining whether the polymer flows or is solid. The NFT is not well defined, and a standard method for measuring it does not exist. A sensitivity analysis of the filling stage has been carried out with two different packages [VISI Flow (Vero Software Limited, Gloucestershire, UK) and Moldflow (Autodesk, Inc., San Rafael, CA)] to estimate the influence of the NFT on the main processing parameters. Purpose: To analyze the optical quality of intraocular lenses (IOL) with an orange (PC440Y) and a yellow (SN60AT) filter, and correlate these results with the visual quality of patients with these implants.
