Geographical Routing for Delay Tolerant Encounter Networks
2007
Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs) are intermittently connected networks, where direct end--to--end path between communicating nodes may never exist. To achieve eventual delivery some nodes must store messages and wait opportunity to forward them. In mobile environment, one of the most challenging problems for routing protocols is to decide, which nodes should store the message to achieve eventual delivery as quick as possible. Common approach is to propagate message into large group of nodes, hoping one of them will reach the destination. These solutions, however, are not very scalable as they generate plenty of extra load and traffic to network. Further more, message carriers have no means to…

Adsorption and Detection of DNA Dendrimers at Carbon Electrodes
1998
Made available in DSpace on 2022-04-28T19:53:27Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 1998-01-01 Dendritic nucleic acids are highly branched and ordered molecular structures, possessing numerous single-stranded oligonucleotide arms, which hold great promise for enhancing the sensitivity of DNA biosensors. This article evaluates the interfacial behavior and redox activity of nucleic acid dendrimers at carbon paste electrodes, in comparison to DNA. Factors influencing the adsorption behavior, including the adsorption potential and time, solution conditions, or dendrimer concentration, are explored. The strong adsorption at the anodically pretreated carbon surface is exploited for …
Chapter 33 Experimental human models of neuropathic pain
2006
Publisher Summary This chapter reviews human surrogate models of neuropathic pain that focus on the mechanisms of symptom generation. A vast array of human surrogate models exists for ongoing symptoms, for positive sensory symptoms, and for sensory loss. The chapter discusses that by design, human surrogate models of neuropathic pain involve a reversible modulation of the properties of the nociceptive system such as its acute plasticity (phase 2). They usually do not create a long-lasting and potentially irreversible modification (phase 3). The denervation and ectopic activity of phase 3 can be modeled to a certain extent by transient nerve compression–ischemia and by topical capsaicin. By …
An advanced control strategy for biological nutrient removal in continuous systems based on pH and ORP sensors
2012
[EN] A fuzzy logic-based control system that uses low-cost sensors for controlling and optimizing the biological nitrogen removal in continuous systems has been developed. The novelty of this control system is the use of several pH, ORP, and dissolved oxygen (DO) sensors instead of on-line nitrogen sensors/analyzers. The nitrogen control system was developed and implemented in a UCT pilot plant fed with wastewater from a full-scale plant. The developed nitrification controller allows the effluent ammonium concentration to be maintained below the effluent criteria discharge with the minimum energy consumption. The denitrification process controller allows the energy consumption derived from …
Multispectral imaging and its use for face recognition : sensory data enhancement
2015
In this thesis, we focus on multispectral image for face recognition. With such application, the quality of the image is an important factor that affects the accuracy of therecognition. However, the sensory data are in general corrupted by noise. Thus, wepropose several denoising algorithms that are able to ensure a good tradeoff betweennoise removal and details preservation. Furthermore, characterizing regions and detailsof the face can improve recognition. We focus also in this thesis on multispectral imagesegmentation particularly clustering techniques and cluster analysis. The effectiveness ofthe proposed algorithms is illustrated by comparing them with state-of-the-art methodsusing both…
Reversible pH-induced fluorescence colour change of gold nanoclusters based on pH-regulated surface interactions.
2019
To prepare water-dispersible, biocompatible, ratiometric pH nanosensors is challenging. We report here for the first time that the emission colour of NAD+-capped AuNCs responds to the mono-/bidentate anchoring of the phosphoric groups of the ligand. The AuNCs exhibit a high luminescence (21% quantum yield) and an outstanding performance as fluorescent ratiometric pH sensors over a broad pH range.
