How do organisms adapt to climate change? : chromosomal inversions in 'Drosophila subobscura': The case of Serbian populations
2015
It is well known that chromosomal inversions in natural populations of the species Drosophila subobscura are adaptations to changes in the environment. It has been observed that inversions change in frequency over time and that they are so far following the pattern expected given the global warming of our planet. These results have been brought to light by our research on Serbian populations of D. subobscura. We found that inversion-related changes in chromosomal polymorphisms depended on the season of the year and in the long term (10-15 year periods) they followed what we would expect given global warming. Therefore, chromosomal inversions in this species are good indicators of climate ch…

Pamięci nieukojone. Wokół upamiętniania ofiar w Serbii i Chorwacji (Jasenovac, Bleiburg i belgradzkie Sajmište)
2016
Memory in action – Performative practices in a dispute about the past: Serbia and Croatia at the turn of the 20th and 21st century
2019
Memory in action – Performative practices in a dispute about the past: Serbia and Croatia at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuryThe article is an attempt to combine in one reflection the elements of two directions of critical thinking: discursive and performative. The starting point of the analysis is the assumption (derived from beliefs common in pre-performative times) that every space (including a city’s territory) can be treated as a text. This means that both static artifacts and activities in a given space communicate a certain message and can be seen as signs or symbols that refer to something outside of them. Our reflection focuses on practices in which the performative potential …

2022

Ciało, trup, śmierć w utworze "Götz i Meyer" Davida Albahariego
2019
The article investigates the broadly understood record of Jewish death that emerges from the text of the Serbian prose writer David Albahari. Emphasizing the dominance of economy in the Nazi system, the author indicates those procedures described in Albahari’s book which justify such an assessment (e.g. human reification, the body as debris, technical syntax used by German officials). Additionally, these considerations on death representation are supplemented with an endeavor to establish the Belgrade dwellers’ attitude towards the fortunes of the Jews. According to the author, the novel explicitly marks the spatial opposition (enclosure vs. opening, the camp vs. the city center) that is re…
