Chief Series and Right Regular Representations of Finite p-Groups

1988

AbstractWe study the embeddings of a finite p-group U into Sylow p-subgroups of Sym (U) induced by the right regular representation p: U→ Sym(U). It turns out that there is a one-to-one correspondence between the chief series in U and the Sylow p-subgroups of Sym (U) containing Up. Here, the Sylow p-subgroup Pσ of Sym (U) correspoding to the chief series σ in U is characterized by the property that the intersections of Up with the terms of any chief series in Pσ form σp. Moreover, we see that p: U→ Pσ are precisely the kinds of embeddings used in a previous paper to construct the non-trivial countable algebraically closed locally finite p-groups as direct limits of finite p-groups.

On a theorem of Berkovich

2002

In a recent paper, Berkovich studied how to describe the nilpotent residual of a group in terms of the nilpotent residuals of some of its subgroups. That study required the knowledge of the structure of the minimal nonnilpotent groups, also called Schmidt groups. The major aim of this paper is to show that this description could be obtained as a consequence of a more complete property, giving birth to some interesting generalizations. This purpose naturally led us to the study of a family of subgroup-closed saturated formations of nilpotent type. An innovative approach to these classes is provided.

Physical applications of algebras of unbounded operators

2007

During the past 20 years a long series of papers concerning algebras of unbounded operators appeared in the literature, papers which, though being originally motivated by physical arguments, contain almost no physics at all. On the contrary the mathematical aspects of these algebras have been analyzed in many details and this analysis produced, up to now, the monographes [32] and [2]. Some physics appeared first in [28] and [31], in the attempt to describe systems with a very large (1024) number of degrees of freedom, following some general ideas originally proposed in the famous Haag and Kastler’s paper, [27], on QM∞.

ANALISI DELLE SERIE TEMPORALI DI DATI PROVENIENTI DALLA RETE DI STAZIONI PERMANENTI DELL’UNIPA

2010

Prediction of the chemiluminescent behavior of pharmaceuticals and pesticides.

2001

The present paper deals with the first attempt to apply molecular connectivity calculations to predict a chemical property with analytical usefulness: the chemiluminescent behavior of substances when reacted with common oxidants in a liquid phase. Preliminary evidence when searching for new direct CL methods consisted of the examination of analyte reaction with a wide range of oxidants and media. This task, which results in time-consuming and trial-and-error expensive procedures, is necessary due to ensure empirical or theoretical rules for CL prediction are available. On the other hand, in quantitative structure-activity relationship studies, molecular connectivity is a topological method …

Observation of interaction forces by investigation of the influence of eluent additives on the retention behavior of aqueous nanoparticle dispersions…

2020

The investigation and subsequent understanding of the interactions of nanomaterials with components of their surrounding media is important to be able to evaluate both potential use cases as well as potential risks for human health and for the environment. To investigate such interactions, asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation (AF4) is an interesting analytical tool. This statement grounds on the fact that interactions of the analyte with the membrane and with components of the eluent are crucial for the retention behavior of the analyte within the field-flow fractionation (FFF) channel. Therefore, the investigation of the retention behavior provides an insight in the nature of the int…

A taylor series model to evaluate the interelemental effects in X-ray fluorescence analysis, applied to the iron-zirconium-diluent system

1995

A semi-empirical model has been developed to quantify the interelemental effects in X-ray fluorescence analysis. The measured X-ray fluorescence intensity has been expressed as a function of the different fluorescence elements composing the sample. this complex function has become an operative function via a Taylor series development. An explication has been given for the significance of the different terms of the series. These terms respond to mathematical functions known as characteristic functions for each chemical system. A parameter (B) has been defined which makes it possible to quantify the influence of the interelemental effect as a function of the analyte concentration (C) and that…
