Estimation of the time lag occurring between vegetation indices and aridity indices in a Sicilian semi-arid catchment

The evolution of drought phenomena in a Sicilian semi-arid catchment has been analyzed processing both remote sensing images and climatic data for the period 1985-2000. The remote sensing dataset includes Landsat TM and ETM+ multispectral images, while the climatic dataset includes monthly rainfall and air temperature. The results have been specifically discussed for areas where it is possible to neglect agricultural activities and vegetation growth is only influenced by natural forcing. Abstract Within the framework of a generalized normal ordering (GNO), invented by Mukherjee [1] , the reduced density matrix cumulants of the (multiconfigurational) reference wave function play a central role, as they arise directly from the contraction rules. The extended Wick theorem allows contractions of an arbitrary number of active annihilators and creators through a cumulant of corresponding rank. A correction method for dynamic analysis of linear systems

Abstract This paper proposes an analytical method to improve the accuracy of the dynamic response of classically damped linear systems, as given by a standard truncated modal analysis. The issue of morphodynamic influence in meandering streams is investigated through a series of laboratory experiments on curved and straight flumes. Both qualitative and quantitative observations confirm the suitability of the recent theoretical developments (Zolezzi & Seminara 2001) that indicate the occurrence of two distinct regimes of morphodynamic influence, depending on the value of the width ratio of the channel β. Turán type inequalities for generalized inverse trigonometric functions

In this paper we study the inverse of the eigenfunction $\sin_p$ of the one-dimensional $p$-Laplace operator and its dependence on the parameter $p$, and we present a Tur\'an type inequality for this function. Similar inequalities are given also for other generalized inverse trigonometric and hyperbolic functions. In particular, we deduce a Tur\'an type inequality for a series considered by Ramanujan, involving the digamma function.

Mutual nonlinear prediction of cardiovascular variability series: Comparison between exogenous and autoregressive exogenous models

A model-based approach to perform mutual nonlinear prediction of short cardiovascular variability series is presented. The approach is based on identifying exogenous (X) and autoregressive exogenous (ARX) models by K-nearest neighbors local linear approximation, and estimates the predictability of a series given the other as the squared correlation between original and predicted values of the series. Maxillary bone necrosis following the use of bisphosphonates in patients with cancer: management and case series

Bisphosphonates are bone-turnover modulating drugs used to treat various diseases such as certain cancers, bone metastasis, bone- and calcium-related disorders, Paget`s disease, osteoporosis and osteopenia. Recently, several preliminary reports have reported the insurgence of osteonecrosis of the mandible and/or maxilla, associated with intravenously administered bisphosphonates. This case series describes the effects of bisphosphonates used in the treatment of certain cancers on oral bone tissues.

Automatic program for peak detection and deconvolution of multi-overlapped chromatographic signals

Several interlinked algorithms for peak deconvolution by non-linear regression are presented. These procedures, together with the peak detection methods outlined in Part I, have allowed the implementation of an automatic method able to process multi-overlapped signals, requiring little user interaction. A criterion based on the evaluation of the multivariate selectivity of the chromatographic signal is used to auto-select the most efficient deconvolution procedure for each chromatographic situation.
