Complexity of expression of intermediate filament proteins, including glial filament protein, in endometrial and ovarian adenocarcinomas

1991

The expression patterns of intermediate filament proteins of primary and metastatic endometrial (n = 18) and ovarian (n = 24) adenocarcinomas were analyzed by immunocytochemistry using a panel of specific antibodies and by gel electrophoresis of cytoskeletal preparations, followed by immunoblotting. All cells of all endometrial adenocarcinomas studied contained the "simple epithelial"-type cytokeratins (CKs) 8, 18, and (mostly) 19, with variable numbers of cells also positive for CK 7 and vimentin. In addition, most of these tumors contained individual cells or groups of cells that were positive for the stratification-related CKs 4, 5, 6, 13, 14, and 17. The latter CKs were often associated…

Laparoscopic staging of apparent early stage ovarian cancer: Results of a large, retrospective, multi-institutional series

2014

Abstract Objective The aim of this study is to analyze the safety, adequacy, perioperative and survival figures in a large series of laparoscopic staging of patients with apparent early stage ovarian malignancies (ESOM). Patients and methods Retrospective data from seven gynecologic oncology service databases were searched for ESOM patients undergoing immediate laparoscopic staging or delayed laparoscopic staging after an incidental diagnosis of ESOM. Between May 2000 and February 2014, 300 patients were selected: 150 had been submitted to immediate laparoscopic staging (Group 1), while 150 had undergone delayed laparoscopic staging (Group 2) of ESOM. All surgical, pathologic, and oncologic…

Minilaparoscopic aortic lymphadenectomy.

2015

Abstract Study Objective To show the feasibility of performing aortic lymphadenectomy with 3-mm instruments in gynecologic malignancies. Patient A 43-year-old, multiparous patient with serous ovarian cancer grading 2, Federation Internationale de Gynecologie et d'Obstetrique stage IC (intraoperative spillage). Intervention The patient was accidentally diagnosed with ovarian cancer after a right adnexectomy performed for an ovarian cyst. Once referred to our center, a delayed surgical staging was planned including total hysterectomy, left adnexectomy, aortic and pelvic lymphadenectomy, peritoneal biopsies, and total omentectomy. Minilaparoscopy was believed to be feasible to achieve it. Meas…

OX40 expression in tumor-associated Tregs as a potential prognostic biomarker and immunotherapeutic target in ovarian cancer.

2015

e16576 Background: Treatment of ovarian cancer (OC) remains very challenging, with 80-85% of the cases still dying after relapse to standard chemotherapy, and novel treatments are urgently needed. Expansion of regulatory T cells (Tregs) is considered the major factor limiting immune responses to OC. Agonist antibodies against the co-stimulatory receptor OX40 have recently demonstrated to abrogate Treg functions and are under clinical evaluation. We thus studied whether OX40 constituted a valid target of OC-associated Tregs. Methods: Treg immunophenotypic analyses were performed by flow cytometry in ascites and OC specimens and studied in association with patients’ outcome Results: CD4+CD25+…

Abstract B157: OX40 expression in tumor-associated Tregs as a potential prognostic biomarker and immunotherapeutic target in ovarian cancer

2016

Abstract Background - Treatment of ovarian cancer remains very challenging, with 80-85% of the cases still dying after relapse to standard chemotherapy, and alternative treatments are urgently needed. Expansion of regulatory T cells (Tregs) is considered the major factor limiting spontaneous immune responses to ovarian cancer. Agonist antibodies against the co-stimulatory receptor OX40 have recently demonstrated to abrogate Treg functions and are under clinical evaluation. We thus studied whether OX40 constituted a valid target of ovarian cancer-associated Tregs. Methods -Treg immunophenotypic analyses were performed by flow cytometry in ascites and ovarian cancer specimens and studied in a…

Diagnostic performance of endoscopic ultrasound through‐the‐needle microforceps biopsy of pancreatic cystic lesions: Systematic review with meta‐anal…

2020

Objectives Endoscopic ultrasound through-the-needle biopsy (EUS-TTNB) is a useful tool for differential diagnosis among pancreatic cystic lesions (PCLs). Cystic fluid cytology (CFC) is recommended by guidelines, but its diagnostic accuracy is about 50%. The aim of this meta-analysis is to assess the clinical impact of EUS-TTNB in terms of technical success (TS), histological accuracy (HA) and diagnostic yield (DY). Methods Original studies in English language on EUS-TTNB were searched in MEDLINE and EMBASE until October 2019. Diagnostic accuracy of EUS-TTNB for identification of mucinous PCLs was calculated using individual diagnostic data of patients who underwent CFC and surgery. Results …

Key nodes of a microRNA network associated with the integrated mesenchymal subtype of high-grade serous ovarian cancer

2015

Metastasis is the main cause of cancer mortality. One of the initiating events of cancer metastasis of epithelial tumors is epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), during which cells dedifferentiate from a relatively rigid cell structure/morphology to a flexible and changeable structure/morphology often associated with mesenchymal cells. The presence of EMT in human epithelial tumors is reflected by the increased expression of genes and levels of proteins that are preferentially present in mesenchymal cells. The combined presence of these genes forms the basis of mesenchymal gene signatures, which are the foundation for classifying a mesenchymal subtype of tumors. Indeed, tumor classifi…

Modified seromuscular tube: serosa lined bowel wall imbrication as a continent outlet for continent cutaneous urinary diversion.

1999

Purpose: We created a simplified modification of the seromuscular tube technique for continent cutaneous urinary diversion. Materials and Methods: We applied a simplified modification of our seromuscular tube technique in 1 woman and 2 men with a mean age of 53 years in whom outlet failure developed after continent cutaneous urinary diversion, and in whom adiposity and postoperative adhesions rendered revision difficult. We constructed a continent outlet conduit by imbricating the whole bowel wall and suturing it into a tube. Results: At a followup of 4 to 13 months (mean 7) all 3 patients are completely continent without leakage. Catheterization is performed at 3 to 5-hour intervals (mean …

TCR Clonality and Genomic Instability Signatures as Prognostic Biomarkers in High Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer.

2021

Simple Summary High-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSC) could be analyzed with a molecular stratification defined by different genomic instability signatures associated with specific mutational process and prognostic biomarkers. Immune infiltrate is known to be a robust biomarker in HGSC. We aimed to investigate immune parameters according to genomic instability signatures. We observed that homologous recombination deficiency positive, copy cumber variant signature 7 and TCR (T cells receptor) clonality are good prognostic biomarkers in HGSC. Combining TCR clonality and genomic instability signature or T cell infiltration improved the prognostic value compared to each variable taken alone…

PurposeTo compare the functional and anatomical outcomes of eyes with chronic central serous chorioretinopathy treated with yellow micropulse (MP) laser versus half-dose verteporfin photodynamic therapy (PDT).MethodsThis is a multicentre, retrospective comparative study of 92 eyes treated with yellow MP laser (duty cycle of 5%, zero spacing between spots, spot size varied from 100 to 200 µm, power varied from 320 to 660 mW, and the pulse burst duration was 200 ms) and 67 eyes treated with PDT (half-dose verteporfin (3 mg/m2) infused over 10 min), followed by laser activation for 83 s. Spot sizes varied from 400 to 2000 µm.ResultsIn the MP group, at 12 months of follow-up, the mean best corr…
