A mobile agent tool for resource discovery
2004
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses a mobile agent based tool for arranging communities whose members want to share computing resources. Such a tool enables community members to arrange their own parallel virtual machine, using resources available within the community. Mobile agents are used to search among available addresses inside the community, and are instructed to select the ones which correspond to the users' requirements. The agent is the key component of the system, because it takes care of the server availability test and of the decision on whether to include them into the virtual machine, according to the user's requirements. The database acts as an intermediary between the …
The Footprints of a “Mastodon”: How a Decentralized Architecture Influences Online Social Relationships
2019
Decentralized online social networks (DOSNs) have recently emerged as a viable solution to preserve the users' privacy and ensure higher users' control over the contents they publish. However, little is known about the backlashes that the decentralized organization and management of these platforms may have on the overlaid social network. This paper fills the gap. Specifically, we investigate how a decentralized architecture based on distributed servers impacts the structure of the users' neighborhood and their ego-networks. Our analysis relies on social data gathered from the decentralized micro-blogging platform Mastodon, the newest and fastest-growing decentralized alternative to Twitter…
You’ve Got Photos! The design and evaluation of a location-based media-sharing application
2008
PhotoJournal is a novel location-based media sharing appli- cation that enables users to build interactive journals that associate multimedia files with locations on maps and share this information with other users. Its underlying informa- tion discovery and sharing mechanism is 7DS that runs in either pure peer-to-peer or centralized server-to-client mode, depending on the availability of a server and/or an infras- tructure. 7DS-enabled devices act as miniature caches, shar- ing information with each other. When access to an informa- tion server (e.g., web server) is not available, the local 7DS instance running on the device enables the device to search and access information from other p…
Web Traffic Modeling for E-Commerce Web Server System
2009
The paper concerns a problem of the e-commerce Web server system performance evaluation through simulation experiments, especially a problem of modeling a representative stream of user requests at the input of such system. Motivated by a need of a benchmarking tool for the Business-to-Consumer (B2C) environment we discuss a workload model typical of such Web sites and also a model of a multi-tiered e-commerce Web server system. A simulation tool in which the proposed models have been implemented is briefly talked over and some experimental results on the Web system performance in terms of traditional and business performance measures are presented.
Hipervīzoru savietojamība
2016
PTNet: An efficient and green data center network
2017
International audience; In recent years, data centers have witnessed an exponential growth for hosting hundreds of thousands of servers as well as to accommodating a very large demand for resources. To fulfill the required level of demand, some approaches tackled network aspects so to host a huge number of servers while others focused on delivering rapid services to the clients by minimizing the path length between any two servers. In general, network devices are often designed to achieve 1:1 oversubscription. Alternatively, in a realistic data center environment, the average utilization of a network could vary between 5% and 25%, and thus the energy consumed by idle devices is wasted. This…
A predictive approach for a real-time remote visualization of large meshes
2012
Déjà sur HAL; Remote access to large meshes is the subject of studies since several years. We propose in this paper a contribution to the problem of remote mesh viewing. We work on triangular meshes. After a study of existing methods of remote viewing, we propose a visualization approach based on a client-server architecture, in which almost all operations are performed on the server. Our approach includes three main steps: a first step of partitioning the original mesh, generating several fragments of the original mesh that can be supported by the supposed smaller Transfer Control Protocol (TCP) window size of the network, a second step called pre-simplification of the mesh partitioned, ge…
Localization from inertial data and sporadic position measurements
2020
International audience; A novel estimation strategy for inertial navigation in indoor/outdoor environments is proposed with a specific attention to the sporadic nature of the non-periodic measurements. After introducing the inertial navigation model, we introduce an observer providing an asymptotic estimate of the plant state. We use a hybrid dynamical systems representation for our results, in order to provide an effective, and elegant theoretical framework. The estimation error dynamics with the proposed observer shows a peculiar cascaded interconnection of three subsystems (allowing for intuitive gain tuning), with perturbations occurring either on the jump or on the flow dynamics (depen…
Observateur et contrôle optimal : améliorer l'efficacité de la conduite automobile avec Kalman et Pontryagin
2010
The PhD presents a combined approach to improving individual car efficiency. An optimal observer, the Extended Kalman Filter, is used to create an efficiency model for the car. Particular attention was paid to handling the asynchronous and redundant nature of the measurement data. A low-cost sensor suite developed to measure data is described. This sensor suite was installed on multiple vehicles to good success. It employsan accelerometer, gps, fuel injector timer, and Vss input to measure all the data necessary to reconstruct the car's state. This observer and sensor suite can be used as the base for any study which requires car efficiency maps, allowing research to proceed without manufac…
