2012

Equality, continuity and adaptability. Foundations of the right of the public utilities, Rolland laws apply vigorously to the public service for electricity, where activities did not change since the advent of the « electricity fairy ». It is always about producing, transporting, distributing and supplying electricity, respecting the general interest. Nevertheless, the legal framework applicable to these activities is under a dramatic transition, stemming from the will of the European Union to create a single market for electricity. These changes incrementally drive to a shift of the public utility, basically socially oriented, to more and more demanding and diversified economic objectives.…

Lines of development in social research on disability in Finland between the years 1970–2010

2013

This article reviews the development of social research on disability conducted in Finland during the 40-year period from 1970 until 2010. The main focus is the connection of the research with the socioeconomic development of the country. The review starts from the emergence of a new disability service paradigm during the late 1960s. This new paradigm centred around the concept of rehabilitation, and had its roots in the birth of a postmodern welfare state during the same decade. The second shift began during the 1980s and was characterized by the precedence of human rights issues. Both of these changes paralleled international developments, but equally had their roots in the Finnish post-w…

Research on Service-Learning in Physical Activity and Sport: Where We Have Been, Where We Are, Where We Are Going

2022

Higher education is under constant transformation through the use of new pedagogical models such as university service-learning (SL). Indeed, there has been an exponential uptake of university SL, among others, in the field of physical activity and sport (PAS) along with research examining these practices. However, these initiatives highlight the need to improve the quality of research in this field. This paper presents a systematic review focused on how research in this arena has been carried out, examining the following topics: paradigm, methods, instruments, discipline, limitations, and further research. A total of 45 articles met the inclusion criteria. The results show that qualitative…

Current agri-environmental policies dismiss varied perceptions and discourses on management of traditional rural biotopes

2017

Traditional rural biotopes (TRBs) are threatened habitats that host significant biodiversity and several ecosystem services, and depend on active management such as low-intensity grazing. The current study explores private landowners’ decision-making on TRB management and abandonment within a social-ecological system framework. We provide insight into supporting resilience of TRB systems in the face of agricultural modernization. Using a mixed methods approach with content analysis and Q analysis, we demonstrate that TRB management fosters cultural, biological, aesthetic, and utilitarian values. These are reflected in different ways through conservationist's, profit-oriented farmer's, lands…

Pre-service teachers’ self-efficacy in implementing inclusive practices and resilience in Finland

2021

This study aims to explore Finnish pre-service teachers' self-efficacy in implementing inclusive education and their resilience. Survey data were collected from 105 pre-service teachers studying in a teacher education programme in one university in Finland. The relationships between pre-service teachers' self-efficacy in implementing inclusive practices, their perceived resilience, and background variables were examined using structural equation modelling. The results confirmed a three-factor structure for self-efficacy in implementing inclusive practices among the pre-service teachers. In addition, pre-service teachers’ self-efficacy was the strongest variable that related to their resilie…

Vanhemmuuden ja selviytymiskykyisyyden tukeminen ohjatussa äiti–lapsi-vertaisryhmässä

2022

Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvittää COPE-indeksiä (Carers of Older People in Europe, COPE index) apuna käyttäen, minkälainen on omaishoitajien kuormittumisen tila Jämsä-Kuhmoinen SoTe-yhteistoiminta-alueella.
