A hybrid state observer design is presented herein to estimate sway-angle and angular velocity in trolley systems with pendulum. In general, anti-sway control for trolley systems with pendulum such as overhead cranes are designed based on sway-angle signals detected by angular sensors. Opposed to that, a state observer without those sensors is proposed to estimate the sway-angle of the pendulum. A standard linear continuous feedback observer causes estimation error owing to the system nonlinearity and modeling error. Linearized Piecewise Affine in Control and States Hydraulic System: Modeling and Identification

In this paper, the modeling and identification of a nonlinear actuated hydraulic system is addressed. The full-order model is first reduced in relation to the load pressure and flow dynamics and, based thereupon, linearized over the entire operational state-space. The dynamics of the proportional control valve is identified, analyzed, and intentionally excluded from the reduced model, due to a unity gain behavior in the frequency range of interest. The input saturation and dead-zone nonlinearities are considered while the latter is identified to be close to 10% of the valve opening. As rats learn to search for multiple sources of food or water in a complex environment, they generate increasingly efficient trajectories between reward sites. Such spatial navigation capacity involves the replay of hippocampal place-cells during awake states, generating small sequences of spatially related place-cell activity that we call "snippets". These snippets occur primarily during sharp-wave-ripples (SWRs). Here we focus on the role of such replay events, as the animal is learning a traveling salesperson task (TSP) across multiple trials. Novel Synechococcus Genomes Reconstructed from Freshwater Reservoirs

Freshwater picocyanobacteria including Synechococcus remain poorly studied at the genomic level, compared to their marine representatives. Here, using a metagenomic assembly approach we discovered two novel Synechococcus sp. genomes from two freshwater reservoirs Tous and Lake Lanier, both sharing 96% average nucleotide identity and displaying high abundance levels in these two lakes located at similar altitudes and temperate latitudes. These new genomes have the smallest estimated size (2.2 Mb) and average intergenic spacer length (20 bp) of any previously sequenced freshwater Synechococcus, which may contribute to their success in oligotrophic freshwater systems. We investigated the evolution and epidemiology of a novel livestock-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strain, which colonizes and infects urban-dwelling Danes even without a Danish animal reservoir. Genetic evidence suggests both poultry and human adaptation, with poultry meat implicated as a probable source.

In Gabon, terrestrial mammals of protected areas have been identified as a possible source of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Some studies on antibiotic resistance in bats have already been carried out. The main goal of our study was to detect extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) that are produced by enterobacteria from bats in the Makokou region in Gabon. Sixty-eight fecal samples were obtained from 68 bats caught in the forests located 1 km from the little town of Makokou. After culture and isolation, 66 Gram-negative bacterial colonies were obtained.
