Developing REE parameters for soil and sediment profile analysis to identify Neolithic anthropogenic signatures at Serpis Valley (Spain)

In this study, patterns of rare earth elements (REE) have been developed and applied for the first time to sediments and soils to identify anthropogenic or natural layers in profiles sampled at several Neolithic settlements in the Serpis Valley area (Alicante, Spain). Most of these sites are characterized by dark brown paleosols that are easily distinguishable from the light brown paleosols of the valley. To demonstrate whether these strata are anthropogenic or natural requires a better geochemical understanding of sediment. Localisée en limite SE de l’agglomération rémoise, sur la commune de Cernay-les-Reims, l’emprise de l’opération porte sur une surface de 11 300 m2. Cette neuvième concentration de vestiges, fouillée sur un parc d’activité, correspond à un établissement rural de l’Antiquité tardive, prolongé à l’époque médiévale par une zone d’activité artisanale. Ces deux occupations se développent le long d’un axe de circulation qui perdure vraisemblablement de l’Antiquité à la première guerre mondiale.

Assessment of the Trend of Albedo: a Case Study of Palermo

In this paper we propose a case study of urban heat island applied to Palermo. The urban heat island (UHI) is the most studied of the climate effects of settlements. The UHI refers to the generally warm urban temperatures compared to those over surrounding, non-urban, areas. The aim of this paper is to find a connection among the average rise in temperature and the modification of albedo.

Urbanization and forest degradation in east Africa - a case study around Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

In this paper we examine the impact of the growing urbanization of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on the forest areas around the city. Since 1990 the city has seen an annual population growth rate of over 4%. We document the expansion of the city over the last 30 using the Global Human Settlement Layers, derived from the global Landsat archive. At the same time we show the depletion, of the surrounding forests that has occurred to meet the growing demand for agricultural land, fuel wood and construction material over the same period. Impact of human disturbance and beliefs on the tree agama Acanthocercus atricollis atricollis in a South African communal settlement

We investigated the effects of human disturbance and attitudes on the density of the tree agama Acanthocercus atricollis atricollis in a densely populated rural settlement in South Africa. In this environment agamas live on trees that are harvested for firewood or maintained for fruit production. We conducted visual encounter surveys of A. a. atricollis and interviewed local households to establish whether human attitudes and actions could affect tree agama populations. Gir boplikt lavere boligpriser?

Siden 1974 har norske kommuner hatt adgang til å innføre boplikt for eiendommer som er eller har vært i bruk som helårsbolig. Ordningen har helt siden den ble innført, vært svært omstridt. Vi undersøker hvordan boplikt påvirker boligprisene. Geografisk avgrenser vi oss til kystkommuner på Sørlandet, der mange som har sin faste bopel andre steder i landet, etterspør fritidsbolig. Uten boplikt kan helårsboliger bli kjøpt opp for å bli brukt som fritidsboliger. Den empiriske analysen, basert på data fra fire sørlandskommuner, hvorav den største kommunen, Arendal, opphevet boplikten i 2014, viser at prisene i kystsonen økte da boplikten ble opphevet.
