A comparison study of moclobemide and doxepin in major depression with special reference to effects on sexual dysfunction

A double-blind parallel-group comparison study of moclobemide versus doxepin in 237 patients with major depression confirmed that moclobemide was equal in efficacy and better tolerated than doxepin. It was less sedating and caused fewer anticholinergic adverse events as measured by the UKU side-effect rating scale. Unexpectedly, moclobemide therapy more often than doxepin resulted in increased sexual desire. An exploratory analysis of UKU-measured symptoms of impaired sexual function prior to commencement of the study revealed that moclobemide more often than doxepin led to an improvement of reduced libido and impaired erection, ejaculation and orgasm. Objectives: To assess the rates of co-occurring putative ‘behavioural addictions’ in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Methods: Twenty-three international centres specialising in the treatment of OCD were invited to participate in a survey of the rates of behavioural addictions and other relevant comorbidity within their samples. Results: Sixteen of 23 (69.6%) invited centres from 13 countries had sufficient data to participate in the survey. Sexual Compulsivity and Sexual Sensation Seeking: A Preliminary Approach Among Male Sex Workers Compared to Gay Men in Spain

This study aims to explore sexual compulsivity (SC) and sexual sensation seeking (SSS) in male sex workers (MSWs) compared to a group of non-MSW gay men. A total of 60 MSWs and 63 gay men answered the SC Scale and the SSS Scale. The total scales' mean score was slightly higher in the MSW population. Still, statistical differences were observed in only two SSS items. In spite of the absence of statistical significance, MSWs presented more sexual behavior interferences on their lives and higher failure to control sexual impulses. Future interventions among MSWs should focus on sexual self-control and impulsivity.
