A unified approach to quasi-static shakedown problems for elastic-plastic solids with piecewise linear yield surface
1978
The paper concerns shakedown analysis of elastic-plastic bodies subjected to quasi-statically varying loads within a given domain. Using a perturbation method, a general inequality is given, from which, by simply specializing the perturbing terms, the generalized Melan theorem as well as bounds on various deformation parameters (such as displacements or plastic strain intensities) are derived. The solution of the «perturbed» shakedown problem in finite or holonimic terms permits the bound to be the most stringent and expressible in «local» terms instead of integral terms. A simple application concludes the paper.
Shakedown of Structures Subjected to Dynamic External Actions and Related Bounding Techniques
2002
The shakedown theory for dynamic external actions is expounded considering elastic-plastic internal-variable material models endowed with hardening saturation surface and assuming small displacements and strains as long with negligible effects of temperature variations on material data. Two sorts of dynamic shakedown theories are presented, i.e.: i) Unrestricted dynamic shakedown, in which the structure is subjected to (unknown) sequences of short-duration excitations belonging to a known excitation domain, with no-load no-motion time periods in between and for which a unified framework with quasi-static shakedown is presented; and ii) Restricted dynamic shakedown, in which the structure is…

Spectral Shakespeares. Media Adaptations in the Twenty-First Century.
2013
The book is an exploration of recent, experimental adaptations of Shakespeare on film, TV, and the web. Drawing on adaptation studies and media theory as well as Jacques Derrida’s work, this book argues that these adaptations foreground a cluster of self-reflexive "themes" - from incorporation to reiteration, from migration to addiction, from silence to survival - that contribute to the redefinition of adaptation, and Shakespearean adaptation in particular, as an unfinished and interminable process. The "Shakespeare" that emerges from these adaptations is a fragmentary, mediatized, and heterogeneous presence, a spectral Shakespeare that leaves its mark on our contemporary mediascape.
A TDMA-Based MAC Protocol Supporting Cooperative Communications in Wireless Mesh Networks
2011
This paper proposes a TDMA-based medium access control protocol which enables cooperative communications in multi-hop wireless mesh networks. According to the proposed scheme, each router at the two-hop neighbourhood of each other is allocated to a specific time slot for accommodating either direct or cooperative transmissions in a coordinated manner, controlled by mini-slots which are part of the time slot. Benefiting from the elaborate mini-slot design, channel resources are fairly and efficiently allocated to each router so that no handshake is needed prior to each packet transmission. By providing access priority to cooperative transmission through an optimal relay which is determined b…
Analisi limite ed a shakedown mediante il metodo simmetrico degli elementi di contorno
2012
A reformulation of the static approach to evaluate directly the shakedown and limit multipliers by using the Symmetric Boundary Element Method for multidomain type problems [1,2] is shown. The present formulation utilizes the self-equilibrium stress equation [3-5] connecting the stresses at the Gauss points of each substructure (bem-e) to plastic strains through a stiffness matrix (self stress matrix) involving all the bem-elements in the discretized system. The numerical method proposed is a direct approach because it permits to evaluate the multiplier directly as lower bound through the static approach. The analysis has been performed as a costrained optimization problem, solved through m…
A SGBEM approach for static shakedown analysis as CQO problem
2011
In this paper the shakedown static approach was rephrased by using the Symmetric Galerkin Boundary Element Method (SGBEM) for multidomain type problems. The present formulation utilizes the self-equilibrium stress equation, connecting the stresses at the Gauss points of each substructure (bem-e) to plastic strains, through a stiffness matrix (self-stress matrix), involving all the bem-elements of the discretized system. The optimization problem was solved by Conic Quadratic Optimization (CQO) and implemented using the Karnak.sGbem code coupled with MatLab. In order to prove the efficency of the proposed strategy, some numerical tests, in which the shakedown multiplier was checked by SGBEM e…
