Analog joint source-channel Multiple Description coding scheme over AWGN parallel channels

We propose a low complexity analog joint source channel coding Multiple Description (MD) scheme for transmitting the symbols of a Gaussian source across a pair of independent AWGN channels. The outputs of these channels have each a separated receiver, whereas a third receiver has both outputs available. At the transmitter side, a pair of bandwidth-reduction analog mappings are used for joint source-channel coding. Efficient unsupervised clustering for spatial bird population analysis along the Loire river

International audience; This paper focuses on application and comparison of Non Linear Dimensionality Reduction (NLDR) methods on natural high dimensional bird communities dataset along the Loire River (France). In this context, biologists usually use the well-known PCA in order to explain the upstream-downstream gradient.Unfortunately this method was unsuccessful on this kind of nonlinear dataset.The goal of this paper is to compare recent NLDR methods coupled with different data transformations in order to find out the best approach. Results show that Multiscale Jensen-Shannon Embedding (Ms JSE) outperform all over methods in this context.

Taking Advantage of Selective Change Driven Processing for 3D Scanning

This article deals with the application of the principles of SCD (Selective Change Driven) vision to 3D laser scanning. Two experimental sets have been implemented: one with a classical CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor) sensor, and the other one with a recently developed CMOS SCD sensor for comparative purposes, both using the technique known as Active Triangulation. An SCD sensor only delivers the pixels that have changed most, ordered by the magnitude of their change since their last readout. Optimum pulse shape for minimum spectral occupancy in FSK signals

The characteristics of a frequency shift keying (FSK) signal giving rise to maximum power within a prescribed frequency band are determined. The baseband pulse shape extends over any integer number of bit periods. An integral equation for the optimum pulse shape is derived and some simple properties of the solution are investigated. The equation has been solved for some values of the product of the prescribed band times the pulse duration and the signal shape is shown. Shallow water marine sediment bacterial community shifts along a natural CO2 gradient in the Mediterranean Sea Off vulcano, Italy

The effects of increasing atmospheric CO(2) on ocean ecosystems are a major environmental concern, as rapid shoaling of the carbonate saturation horizon is exposing vast areas of marine sediments to corrosive waters worldwide. Natural CO(2) gradients off Vulcano, Italy, have revealed profound ecosystem changes along rocky shore habitats as carbonate saturation levels decrease, but no investigations have yet been made of the sedimentary habitat. Harmonic solution of semiconductor transport equations for microwave and millimetre-wave device modelling

The transport equations for charges in a semiconductor have been solved for a periodic voltage excitation by means of a harmonic approach, for modelling of microwave and millimetre-wave active devices. The solution is based on the expansion of the unknown physical quantities in Fourier series in the time domain, and on the discretisation in the space domain. A Waveform-Balance technique in the time domain is used to solve the resulting non-linear equations system. The choice of a suitable indicator quantifying the distance between the model and the data is therefore of fundamental importance for selecting models.
