Collimation of Target Induced Halo Following MAGIX at MESA

The Mainz Energy-recovering Superconducting Accelerator (MESA) will be an electron accelerator allowing operation in energy-recovery linac (ERL) mode. It provides the opportunity to operate scattering experiments at energies of ~100 MeV with thin gas-targets. The MESA Internal Gas Target Experiment (MAGIX) aims to operate windowless jet targets and different gases up to Xenon to search for possible dark photon interactions, to precisely measure the magnetic proton radius and astrophysical S-factors. Mono-energetic electron induced single-event effects at the VESPER facility

We present experimental evidence of electron induced upsets in a reference ESA SEU monitor, the SEU based particle detector, induced by 200 MeV electron beam at the VESPER facility at CERN. Comparison of experimental cross sections and simulated cross sections are shown and the differences are analyzed. Possible secondary contributions to the upset rate by neutrons and cumulative dose effects are discussed, showing that electronuclear reactions are the expected SEU mechanism. Insight is given as to possible overall electron contribution to the upset rates in the Jovian radiation environment inside a typical spacecraft shielding are evaluated.
Three-Dimensional Neutronics and Shielding Analyses for the ITER Divertor

3-D neutronics and shielding analyses have been performed for the divertor region of the ITER interim design. The peak neutron wall loading in the divertor region is 0.6 MW/m{sup 2} at the divertor cassette dome. The total nuclear heating in the 60 divertor cassettes is 102.4 MW. The peak helium production in the VV behind the pumping ducts is 0.5 He appm/FPY implying that rewelding might be feasible. The total nuclear heating in the parts of the TF coils in the divertor region is only 2.1 kW. 5 refs., 4 figs., 5 tabs.

Abstract Many experiments in nuclear and neutron physics are confronted with the problem that they use a superconducting magnetic spectrometer which potentially affects other experiments by their stray magnetic field. The retardation spectrometer a SPECT consists, inter alia, of a superconducting magnet system that produces a strong longitudinal magnetic field of up to 6.2 T. In order not to disturb other experiments in the vicinity of a SPECT, we had to develop a magnetic field return yoke for the magnet system. Study of background characteristics of a low-level HPGe spectrometer with passive shielding in various configurations

Abstract A low-background germanium spectrometer has been investigated with different combinations of shielding materials in two locations at ground level. In particular, seven shielding configurations have been tested in a room with thick walls and ceiling. The background components, peaks and continuum in the 50–2600 keV energy region, obtained in the several experimental conditions are reported and discussed.

Two years after launch (04.21.97), LEGRI is operating on Minisat-01 in a LEO orbit. The LEGRI detector plane is formed by two type of gamma-ray solid state detectors: HgI2 and CdZnTe. Detectors are embedded in a box containing the FEE and DFE electronics. This box provides an effective detector passive shielding. Detector plane is multiplexed by a Coded Aperture System located at 54 cm and a Ta Collimator with a FCFOV of 22° and 2° angular resolution. Background modelling for LEO satellites with high orbital inclination is not an easy task. The diffuse background component is dominated by the background coming from strong interactions with Earth magnetosphere trapped particles. Normal-state bubbles and lamellae in type-I superconductors

International audience; We report an extensive study of the formation of normal-state domains in type-I superconductors. Domain patterns are first considered theoretically. The magnetic interaction between domains is described in the framework of the ``current-loop'' model: the intermediate state is modeled by a set of loops of screening current encircling the domains and interacting as in the free space. This system is shown to be formally equivalent to a set of uniformly magnetized domains. An extension of the current-loop model is proposed to take into account the constraint of the magnetic shielding by the superconducting regions.
