The benefit of multipore zeolites: Catalytic behaviour of zeolites with intersecting channels of different sizes for alkylation reactions

2009

Abstract The catalytic behaviour of two multipore zeolites containing channels of different sizes, SSZ-33 (10 windows × 12 MR) and ITQ-22 (8 × 10 × 12 MR pores), for alkylation of benzene with ethanol and benzene with isopropanol or propylene, has been studied and compared to that of zeolites with intersecting channels of the same size, ZSM-5 (10 × 10 MR channels) and Beta (12 × 12 MR channels), which are industrially used for the above-mentioned process. For the alkylation of benzene with ethanol in gas phase, ITQ-22 behaves like the 10 MR ZSM-5 with respect to ethylbenzene selectivity, while the behaviour of SSZ-33 is close to that of a 12 MR zeolite such as Beta. For the alkylation of be…

Determination of enzymatic activities using a miniaturized system as a rapid method to assess soil quality

2014

Summary Soil quality determination requires the analysis of a number of soil attributes using different approaches. In recent years, one of the most promising approaches has been the determination of enzymatic activities. Generally, only a few enzymes have been analysed and related to other soil properties such as total carbon, nitrogen content or microbial biomass carbon. The aim of this work was to investigate the possible use of the API ZYM strip, a semi-quantitative miniaturized system that determines 19 enzymatic activities, to study soil quality. To this end, we tested the system in different soil types, including albic Arenosols, mollic Leptosols, rendzic Leptosols, haplic Leptosols …

Ship-in-a-Bottle Synthesis of a Large Guest Occupying Two Y Zeolite Neighbour Supercages: Characterisation and Photocatalytic Activity of the Encapsu…

2003

In a series of papers we reported the ship-in-a-bottle synthesis, photochemical properties and photocatalytic applications of 2,4,6-triphenylpyrylium cation (TP ) encapsulated inside the cavities of large pore zeolites Y and Beta. 2] The identity of encapsulated TP was then confirmed spectroscopically, particularly by the match of the IR spectra of the encapsulated organic material and that of the tetrafluoroborate solid of TP (TPBF4). In addition, the electrochemical response of zeolite Y encapsulated TP (TP@Y) consisted of a reversible single reduction process taking place at the same redox potential as that measured for TPBF4 solutions. Encapsulation of TP has a dramatic influence on its…

Characterization and utilization of MFI zeolites and MCM-41 materials for gaseous pollutant adsorption

1999

Physisorption of n-hexane, trichloroethylene, tetrachloroethylene, carbon and nitrogen oxides on a microporous ZSM-5 (Si/Al=339) zeolite and an amorphous mesoporous MCM-41 (Si/Al=∞) sample was examined by isothermal thermogravimetry, manometry and calorimetry to evaluate the feasibility of using these porous materials for gaseous pollutant adsorption at room temperature. The adsorbents showed very interesting adsorption properties for hydrocarbons. ZSM-5 exhibited the strongest adsorption affinity and MCM-41 showed the largest adsorption capacity. Another main feature in this work was to observe a stepped-isotherm for the adsorption of C2Cl4 on ZSM-5. Such a substep located at very low rela…

Theoretical study of oligomeric alumatranes present in the chemistry of materials from micro to mesoporous molecular sieves and alumina composites

2008

Quantum chemical calculations using density functional theory have been carried out to investigate molecular precursors based on alumatranes which are one of the components with silatranes for the preparation of mesoporous aluminosilicate materials. In the same way, some oligomeric alumatranes of this study take part in chemical syntheses related to materials such as zeolites and alumina composite. Gas phase and solution equilibrium geometries of the alumatrane precursors were fully optimized at B3LYP level, modeling solvent effects using a self-consistent reaction field (SCRF). From these optimized geometries, calculations of the 1 H, 13 C and 27 Al NMR chemical shifts at GIAO/B3LYP/6-31G(…

ORNAMENTAL SIGN LANGUAGE IN THE FIRST ORDER TRACERY BELTS

2010

18 pages; We consider ornamental sign language of first order where principles of sieve displacement, of asymmetric building blocks as base of ornament symmetry, color exchangeability and side equivalence principles work. The generic aspects of sieve and genesis of ornamental pattern and ornament sign in it are discussed. The hemiolia principle for ornamental genesis is introduced. The discoverer of most of these principles were artist Modris Tenisons [4, 5, 6, 7 (refs. 23, 24), 8 (ref. 65)]. Here we apply systematical research using simplest mathematical arguments. We come to conclusions that mathematical argument in arising ornament is of much more significance than simply symmetries in i…

Water repellency as conditioned by particle size and drying in hydrophobized sand

2013

The effects of particle size and soil moisture on water repellency (WR) from hydrophobized sand are studied in this research. Quartz sand samples were separated into three sieve fractions: 0.5–2 mm (coarse sand, CS), 0.25–0.5 mm (medium sand, MS), and 0.05–0.25 mm (fine sand, FS). WR of sand was induced using different concentrations of stearic acid (SA; 0.5, 1, 5, 10, 20 and 30 g kg− 1). Moist samples have been exposed to two types of drying: air-drying at standard laboratory conditions and oven-drying at 50 °C. Change in moisture content, and water repellency has been monitored every 24 h for 10 days. After 1 day of drying, SA concentrations ≥ 10 g kg− 1 caused extreme WR in oven-dry samp…

Adsorption of chlorinated volatile organic compounds on hydrophobic faujasite: correlation between the thermodynamic and kinetic properties and the p…

1998

This work deals with a thermodynamic and kinetic study of the adsorption of single volatile organic compounds (VOCs) (dichloromethane (DCM), 1,2-dichloroethane (DCA), trichloroethene (TCE) and tetrachloroethene (PCE)) on a dealuminated faujasite Y by simultaneous measurements of the adsorbed amounts, adsorption heats and diffusivities. The type V isotherms and the weak values of derivative enthalpies allowed us to predict that the competitive adsorption of their mixture would be similar to a distillation. This prediction was verified experimentally: the breakthrough curves of VOC mixtures showed that the adsorbate with the higher boiling point displaced the adsorbate with the lower boiling …

Catalytic Performance of the New Delaminated ITQ-2 Zeolite for Mild Hydrocracking and Aromatic Hydrogenation Processes

2001

Abstract Catalysts based on NiMo and Pt supported on the new delaminated ITQ-2 zeolite have been prepared and their catalytic properties evaluated for the mild hydrocracking (MHC) of vacuum gasoil and aromatic hydrogenation. The results were compared with those obtained using other conventional supports, e.g., silica, γ-alumina, amorphous silica–alumina (25 wt% Al 2 O 3 ), and USY zeolite, all of which contain the same metal loading as the ITQ-2 material. In the case of MHC of vacuum gasoil, NiMo/ITQ-2 displayed a higher hydrocracking activity than NiMo/SiO 2 –Al 2 O 3 and NiMoγ-Al 2 O 3 , and even higher activity than NiMo/USY in the range 375–425°C. Moreover, NiMo/ITQ-2 had a selectivity …
