Knowledge portal for Six Sigma DMAIC process

2016

Knowledge plays a crucial role in success of DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analysis, Improve, and Control) execution. It is therefore necessary to share and renew the knowledge. Yet, one problem arising is how to create a place where knowledge are collected and shared effectively. We believe that Knowledge Portal (KP) is an important solution for the problem. In this article, the works concerning with requirements and functionalities for KP are first reviewed. Afterwards, a procedure with necessary tools to develop and implement a KP for DMAIC (KPD) is proposed. Particularly, KPD is built on the basis of free and open-source content and learning management systems, and Ontology Engineering. In or…

Contributions Regarding the Application of the Six Sigma Method in Tourism as a Quality Engineering Method

2015

The problem of quality and customer orientation are the most important leverage in obtaining success. Over the time, the influence of human resources in terms of training, controlling and shaping client expectations has gained significant meanings. Research in this field has led to the formulation of the hypotheses according to which human resources can represent a vital element in obtaining a competitive advantage. In line with the importance of the topic addressed, the main objective of these scientific approach is to identify the current problems related to the quality of Romanian tourism services and to propose a improvement program using the six sigma method. The paper provides an exce…

Flavor Ratio of Astrophysical Neutrinos above 35 TeV in IceCube

2015

A diffuse flux of astrophysical neutrinos above $100\,\mathrm{TeV}$ has been observed at the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. Here we extend this analysis to probe the astrophysical flux down to $35\,\mathrm{TeV}$ and analyze its flavor composition by classifying events as showers or tracks. Taking advantage of lower atmospheric backgrounds for shower-like events, we obtain a shower-biased sample containing 129 showers and 8 tracks collected in three years from 2010 to 2013. We demonstrate consistency with the $(f_e:f_{\mu}:f_\tau)_\oplus\approx(1:1:1)_\oplus$ flavor ratio at Earth commonly expected from the averaged oscillations of neutrinos produced by pion decay in distant astrophysical sou…

Inducing the Lyndon Array

2019

In this paper we propose a variant of the induced suffix sorting algorithm by Nong (TOIS, 2013) that computes simultaneously the Lyndon array and the suffix array of a text in $O(n)$ time using $\sigma + O(1)$ words of working space, where $n$ is the length of the text and $\sigma$ is the alphabet size. Our result improves the previous best space requirement for linear time computation of the Lyndon array. In fact, all the known linear algorithms for Lyndon array computation use suffix sorting as a preprocessing step and use $O(n)$ words of working space in addition to the Lyndon array and suffix array. Experimental results with real and synthetic datasets show that our algorithm is not onl…

Parallel In-Memory Evaluation of Spatial Joins

2019

The spatial join is a popular operation in spatial database systems and its evaluation is a well-studied problem. As main memories become bigger and faster and commodity hardware supports parallel processing, there is a need to revamp classic join algorithms which have been designed for I/O-bound processing. In view of this, we study the in-memory and parallel evaluation of spatial joins, by re-designing a classic partitioning-based algorithm to consider alternative approaches for space partitioning. Our study shows that, compared to a straightforward implementation of the algorithm, our tuning can improve performance significantly. We also show how to select appropriate partitioning parame…

On sigma-subnormal subgroups of factorised finite groups

2020

Abstract Let σ = { σ i : i ∈ I } be a partition of the set P of all prime numbers. A subgroup X of a finite group G is called σ-subnormal in G if there is chain of subgroups X = X 0 ⊆ X 1 ⊆ ⋯ ⊆ X n = G with X i − 1 normal in X i or X i / C o r e X i ( X i − 1 ) is a σ i -group for some i ∈ I , 1 ≤ i ≤ n . In the special case that σ is the partition of P into sets containing exactly one prime each, the σ-subnormality reduces to the familiar case of subnormality. If a finite soluble group G = A B is factorised as the product of the subgroups A and B, and X is a subgroup of G such that X is σ-subnormal in 〈 X , X g 〉 for all g ∈ A ∪ B , we prove that X is σ-subnormal in G. This is an extension…

Digital power conversion system based on a sigma-delta modulator linear model

2005

This paper presents a new linear model for the sigma-delta (/spl Sigma//spl Delta/) modulator, based on modeling the nonlinear quantizer with a linear factor, and its input-to-output transfer function is given. The use of a 1-bit sigma-delta modulator in DC/DC power converter systems permits to implement a complete digital control. Results of an investigation from a prototype for a DC-DC converter are here reported. Using of a field programmable gate array allows implementing a simple variable control function. The modulator output produces a variable-frequency variable duty-ratio signal to control the switching power transistors.
