Infrared linear dichroism spectroscopy by a double modulation technique

A linear IR dichroism experiment has been devised using a FTIR instrument in combination with a photoelastic modulator. Based on the Mueller-Stokes calculus, a method to directly obtain the absorbance spectra Av parallel and Av perpendicular from the modulated interferogram is developped, which allows the sensitive evaluation of the dichroic ratio. The photoelastic modulator, in combination with a FTIR instrument, offers high sensitivity, high speed, excellent signal to noise ratio and a broad spectral range from 3300 to 850 cm-1. First experimental results obstained from SBS block copolymer are reported.

In particular the signal to noise ratio (SNR) and the signal amplification show a maximum as a function of the noise intensity. A method for extracting subspace of deterministic sources from EEG data

In this paper, an algorithm for separating linear subspaces of time-locked brain responses and other noise sources in multichannel electroencephalography data is proposed. The search criterion used by method discriminates time-locked brain components and noise components on the basis of the assumed deterministic behavior that the time-locked brain sources obey. The comprehensive derivation of the method is given together with the description and the analysis of the results of the method's application to simulated and real EEG data sets. The possibilities of improving the results are also discussed.

In order to reduce geometric distortion phenomena in MR images, every MRI system main magnet undergoes a shimming process. Since this process aims at optimizing magnetic field homogeneity within a so-called uniformity sphere, image quality outside this sphere is neglected. Since the fields vary smoothly in space, MR signal-to-noise ratio is still non-zero just outside the uniformity region, but correction of MR image distortion fails due to lack of magnetic field knowledge outside it. Application of Adaptive Hypergraph Model to Impulsive Noise Detection

In this paper, using hypergraph theory, we introduce an image model called Adaptive Image Neighborhood Hypergraph (AINH). From this model we propose a combinatorial definition of noisy data. A detection procedure is used to classify the hyperedges either as noisy or clean data. Similar to other techniques, the proposed algorithm uses an estimation procedure to remove the effects of the noise. Extensive simulations show that the proposed scheme consistently works well in suppressing of impulsive noise.
Extraction of ERP from EEG data

In this article, a simple but novel technique for extracting a linear subspace related to event related potentials (ERPs) from ElectroEncephaloGraphy (EEG) data is introduced. The technique consists of a sequence of basic linear operations applied to multidimensional EEG data in a problem-specific manner. The derivation of the proposed technique is given and results with real data are described together with overall conclusions.

The effects of a linear transmission channel on the performance of a correlator receiver for a direct-sequence spreadspectrum system are analyzed and a complete treatment of the influence of a periodic spreading code is carried out. The output data signal is obtained as a function of the channel characteristic and the code sequence employed; this allows maximizing the output signal level and evaluation of the influence of the synchronization error of the local code.
