Scale invariant line matching on the sphere

2013

International audience; This paper proposes a novel approach of line matching across images captured by different types of cameras, from perspective to omnidirectional ones. Based on the spherical mapping, this method utilizes spherical SIFT point features to boost line matching and searches line correspondences using an affine invariant measure of similarity. It permits to unify the commonest cameras and to process heterogeneous images with the least distortion of visual information.

Consensus via multi-population robust mean-field games

2017

In less prescriptive environments where individuals are told ‘what to do’\ud but not ‘how to do’, synchronization can be a byproduct of strategic thinking,\ud prediction, and local interactions. We prove this in the context of multipopulation\ud robust mean-field games. The model sheds light on a multi-scale\ud phenomenon involving fast synchronization within the same population and\ud slow inter-cluster oscillation between different populations.

A predictive learning approach to optimal load sharing in energy management systems

2019

Given the total power demand, $P_{d}$ , current practice of equal load sharing in the process industry is to distribute the load among power supply units and machines (e.g., diesel/aas/wind turbines) in proportion to the maximum power, i.e., $P_{i}=\frac{p_{\max}^{i}}{\sum_{j}P_{\max}^{j}}P_{d}$ , where $P_{\max}^{i}$ denotes the maximum power of the ithunit. However, the efficiency of power supply units, vary in time and are highly individual, even in the case of units from same brand and model. Thus, by considering and utilizing these individual differences, it is possible to share the load in a more fuel/cost/energy optimal manner. To capture this potential, the work presented in this pa…

Algebraic parameter estimation of a multi-sinusoidal waveform signal from noisy data

2013

International audience; In this paper, we apply an algebraic method to estimate the amplitudes, phases and frequencies of a biased and noisy sum of complex exponential sinusoidal signals. Let us stress that the obtained estimates are integrals of the noisy measured signal: these integrals act as time-varying filters. Compared to usual approaches, our algebraic method provides a more robust estimation of these parameters within a fraction of the signal's period. We provide some computer simulations to demonstrate the efficiency of our method.

Gradient-based time to contact on paracatadioptric camera

2013

International audience; The problem of time to contact or time to collision (TTC) estimation is largely discussed in perspective images. However, a few works have dealt with images of catadioptric sensors despite of their utility in robotics applications. The objective of this paper is to develop a novel model for estimating TTC with catadioptric images relative to a planar surface, and to demonstrate that TTC can be estimated only with derivative brightness and image coordinates. This model, called "gradient based time to contact", does not need high processing such as explicit estimation of optical flow and feature detection/or tracking. The proposed method allows to estimate TTC and give…

Algebraic parameter estimation of a biased sinusoidal waveform signal from noisy data

2012

International audience; The amplitude, frequency and phase of a biased and noisy sum of two complex exponential sinusoidal signals are estimated via new algebraic techniques providing a robust estimation within a fraction of the signal period. The methods that are popular today do not seem able to achieve such performances. The efficiency of our approach is illustrated by several computer simulations.

An energy efficiency analysis of Single Point Incremental Forming as an Approach for Sheet Metal Based Component Reuse

2020

Abstract Producing materials causes about 25% of all anthropogenic CO2 emissions. Metals play a significant role, steel and aluminum account for 24% and 3% of worldwide material related emissions respectively. Fostering resources efficiency strategies in the field of sheet components could lead to a significant environmental impact reduction. Reshaping could be one of the most efficient strategy to foster material reuse and lower the environmental impact due to material production. Specifically, for aluminum recycling, the overall energy efficiency of conventional route is very low and, more importantly, permanent material losses occur during re-melting because of oxidation. The present pap…

VARIABLE SELECTION FOR NOISY DATA APPLIED IN PROTEOMICS

2014

International audience; The paper proposes a variable selection method for pro-teomics. It aims at selecting, among a set of proteins, those (named biomarkers) which enable to discriminate between two groups of individuals (healthy and pathological). To this end, data is available for a cohort of individuals: the biological state and a measurement of concentrations for a list of proteins. The proposed approach is based on a Bayesian hierarchical model for the dependencies between biological and instrumental variables. The optimal selection function minimizes the Bayesian risk, that is to say the selected set of variables maximizes the posterior probability. The two main contributions are: (…

Automatic Acoustic Target Detecting and Tracking on the Azimuth Recording Diagram with Image Processing Methods

2019

International audience; Passive acoustic target detection has been a hot research topic for a few decades. Azimuth recording diagram is one of the most promising techniques to estimate the arrival direction of the interested signal by visualizing the sound wave information. However, this method is challenged by the random ambient noise, resulting in low reliability and short effective distance. This paper presents a real-time postprocessing framework for passive acoustic target detection modalities by using a sonar array, in which image processing methods are used to automate the target detecting and tracking on the azimuth recording diagram. The simulation results demonstrate that the prop…

A numerical model for pre-monitoring design of historical colonnade courtyards: The case study of chiaramonte palace in palermo

2016

This paper proposes a numerical model that can be used for theoretical and experimental dynamic characterization of historical colonnade courtyards. Such an architectural element appears often in buildings of historical heritage and, especially under seismic excitation, it represents the most vulnerable structural part. Therefore, it is very important to have reliable as well as simple models available for vulnerability analysis, to evaluate different reinforcing systems if needed, or to plan dynamic characterization tests or monitoring campaigns, as in the present case. Chiaramonte Palace, a wonderful example of the historical heritage of Palermo, is investigated as case study. Firstly, a …
