Signal sequences modulate the immunogenic performance of human hepatitis C virus E2 gene

2005

Abstract Envelope protein E2 of human hepatitis C virus (HCV) is an attractive component of a prototype HCV vaccine. Delivered by DNA immunogens, E2 evokes specific immune response of Th1-type, failing to induce either considerable antibody production, or T-helper cell proliferation. We aimed at modulating the immunogenic performance of E2 gene by changing the mode of protein expression in eukaryotic cells. Plasmids were constructed encoding full-length E2 and nonstructural protein 1 (p7) fused to either 13 or 38 C-terminal amino acids (aa) of HCV E1 that contain second hydrophobic segment of E1 stop-transfer signal, or a complete E1 stop-transfer signal with duplicated second hydrophobic s…

Membrane Insertion and Biogenesis of the Turnip Crinkle Virus p9 Movement Protein

2010

ABSTRACT Plant viral infection and spread depends on the successful introduction of a virus into a cell of a compatible host, followed by replication and cell-to-cell transport. The movement proteins (MPs) p8 and p9 of Turnip crinkle virus are required for cell-to-cell movement of the virus. We have examined the membrane association of p9 and found that it is an integral membrane protein with a defined topology in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane. Furthermore, we have used a site-specific photo-cross-linking strategy to study the membrane integration of the protein at the initial stages of its biosynthetic process. This process is cotranslational and proceeds through the signal recog…

Global Trigger Technological Demonstrator for ATLAS Phase-II upgrade

2020

ATLAS detector at the LHC will undergo a major Phase-II upgrade for the High Luminosity LHC. The upgrade affects all major ATLAS systems, including the Trigger and Data Acquisition systems. As part of the Level-0 Trigger System, the Global Trigger uses full-granularity calorimeter cells to perform algorithms, refines the trigger objects and applies topological requirements. The Global Trigger uses a Global Common Module as the building block of its design. To achieve a high input and output bandwidth and substantial processing power, the Global Common Module will host the most advanced FPGAs and optical modules. In order to evaluate the new generation of optical modules and FPGAs running at…

Retour sensoriel du toucher dans les environnements virtuels

2018

This thesis tackles the subject of the feedbacks of interactions in virtual environments. The theoretical part addresses the different perception schemes and the corresponding haptic modalities. We especially focused on the relevance of each modality for each use-case, on the compatibility with the visual systems which take an important place in virtual reality, and on the problematics of each situation. These studies led us to evaluate passive haptics and sensory substitution for interactions in CAVEs. The results show the importance of choosing the right modality relative to the scenario design. We also evaluated how mismatched the visual and haptic workfield can be, and how the performan…

Biosynthesis of fungal melanins and their importance for human pathogenic fungi

2003

For more than 40 years fungi have been known to produce pigments known as melanins. Predominantly these have been dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA)-melanin and dihydroxynaphthalene (DHN)-melanin. The biochemical and genetical analysis of the biosynthesis pathways have led to the identification of the genes and corresponding enzymes of the pathways. Only recently have both these types of melanin been linked to virulence in some human pathogenic and phytopathogenic fungi. The absence of melanin in human pathogenic and phytopathogenic fungi often leads to a decrease in virulence. In phytopathogenic fungi such as Magnaporthe grisea and Colletotrichum lagenarium, besides other possible functions in …

Environment-Aware RSSI Based Positioning Algorithm for Random Angle Interference Cancellation in Visible Light Positioning System

2021

International audience; Visible Light Positioning (VLP) is considered to be one of the most promising candidates for future Location Based Service (LBSs). The traditional Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) based VLP system is highly sensitized with receiver's orientation. However, the assumption of the receiver's orientation fixed or perfectly known is not realistic in practice. Thus, a random angle between receiver and the horizontal plane inevitably appears among localization, which extremely affects positioning results. This paper proposed an Environment-Aware RSSI based positioning algorithm for VLP system. It enables to mainly eliminate random angle interference without the hel…

Hybrid foveated vision system for video surveillance and robotic navigation

2014

The primary goal of this thesis is to elaborate a binocular vision system using two different types of camera. The system studied here is composed of one omnidirectional camera coupled with a PTZ camera. This heterogeneous association of cameras having different characteristics is called a hybrid stereo-vision system. The couple composed of these two cameras combines the advantages given by both of them, that is to say a large field of view and an accurate vision of a particular Region of interest with an adjustable level of details using the zoom. In this thesis, we are presenting multiple contributions in visual tracking using omnidirectional sensors, PTZ camera self calibration, hybrid v…

Visualizing Confidence in Cluster-based Ensemble Weather Forecast Analyses

2020

In meteorology, cluster analysis is frequently used to determine representative trends in ensemble weather predictions in a selected spatio-temporal region, e.g., to reduce a set of ensemble members to simplify and improve their analysis. Identified clusters (i.e., groups of similar members), however, can be very sensitive to small changes of the selected region, so that clustering results can be misleading and bias subsequent analyses. In this article, we — a team of visualization scientists and meteorologists-deliver visual analytics solutions to analyze the sensitivity of clustering results with respect to changes of a selected region. We propose an interactive visual interface that enab…

GESTALT-INSPIRED FEATURES EXTRACTION FOR OBJECT CATEGORY RECOGNITION

2013

International audience; We propose a methodology inspired by Gestalt laws to ex- tract and combine features and we test it on the object cat- egory recognition problem. Gestalt is a psycho-visual the- ory of Perceptual Organization that aims to explain how vi- sual information is organized by our brain. We interpreted its laws of homogeneity and continuation in link with shape and color to devise new features beyond the classical proxim- ity and similarity laws. The shape of the object is analyzed based on its skeleton (good continuation) and as a measure of homogeneity, we propose self-similarity enclosed within shape computed at super-pixel level. Furthermore, we pro- pose a framework to …
