Why mammalian wound-healing researchers may wish to turn to Drosophila as a model.

2014

Wound healing is an essential and complex biological process that allows tissue continuity and functioning to be restored after injury. Understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying wound repair is essential to develop new therapies that could be useful not only to accelerate the normal healing process but also to treat healing pathologies that appear as a consequence of improper wound resolution. Numerous models have been developed to study wound healing both in vitro and in vivo. In vitro models have been useful to study some steps of epithelial repair. However, the development of effective treatments for wound healing is still required, and this could mainly be achieved …

Encapsulation of Xenon by a Self-Assembled Fe4L6 Metallosupramolecular Cage

2015

We report (129)Xe NMR experiments showing that a Fe4L6 metallosupramolecular cage can encapsulate xenon in water with a binding constant of 16 M(-1). The observations pave the way for exploiting metallosupramolecular cages as economical means to extract rare gases as well as (129)Xe NMR-based bio-, pH, and temperature sensors. Xe in the Fe4L6 cage has an unusual chemical shift downfield from free Xe in water. The exchange rate between the encapsulated and free Xe was determined to be about 10 Hz, potentially allowing signal amplification via chemical exchange saturation transfer. Computational treatment showed that dynamical effects of Xe motion as well as relativistic effects have signific…

Polar accumulation of the metabolic sensory histidine kinases DcuS and CitA in Escherichia coli

2008

Signal transduction in prokaryotes is frequently accomplished by two-component regulatory systems in which a histidine protein kinase is the sensory component. Many of these sensory kinases control metabolic processes that do not show an obvious requirement for inhomogeneous distribution within bacterial cells. Here, the sensory kinases DcuS and CitA, two histidine kinases of Escherichia coli, were investigated. Both are membrane-integral and involved in the regulation of carboxylate metabolism. The two-component sensors were fused with yellow fluorescent protein (YFP) and live images of immobilized cells were obtained by confocal laser fluorescence microscopy. The fluorescence of the fusio…

Motorcyclists Safety System to avoid Rear End Collisions based on Acoustic Signatures

2017

International audience; In many Asian countries, motorcyclists have a higher fatality rate as compared to other vehicles. Among many other factors, rear end collisions are also contributing for these fatalities. Collision detection systems can be useful to minimize these accidents. However, the designing of efficient and cost effective collision detection system for motorcyclist is still a major challenge. In this paper, an acoustic information based, cost effective and efficient collision detection system is proposed for motorcycle applications. The proposed technique uses the Short time Fourier Transform (STFT) to extract the features from the audio signal and Principal component analysis…

Relationship between complex fractionated atrial electrogram patterns and different heart substrate configurations

2012

International audience; Complex Fractionated Atrial Electrograms (CFAE) were identified as being symptomatic of reentrant activities. Signals recorded by an intracardiac catheter give an imprecise vision of the underlying phenomena that occur in the proarrhythmic substrate. In this study, phenomenological and ionic numerical models were used to simulate a small piece of the atrium substrate. The catheter measurement is also simulated numerically to take into account electrode particularities. Modifications were applied on the numerical substrate. Then stimulation scenarios were generated in the numerical substrate such as planar waves, stable or breaking spirals. Comparison between simulate…

A Constrained Band Selection Method Based on Information Measures for Spectral Image Color Visualization

2011

International audience; We present a new method for the visualization of spectral images, based on a selection of three relevant spectral channels to build a Red-Green-Blue composite. Band selection is achieved by means of information measures at the first, second and third orders. Irrelevant channels are preliminarily removed by means of a center-surround entropy comparison. A visualization-oriented spectrum segmentation based on the use of color matching functions allows for computational ease and adjustment of the natural rendering. Results from the proposed method are presented and objectively compared to four other dimensionality reduction techniques in terms of naturalness and informa…
