Resumen: El artículo aborda la reivindicación del silencio en las filosofías de Thoreau y Nietzsche como recurso crítico contra la falta de autenticidad que amenaza al individuo de las sociedades modernas. El trasfondo que confiere significado a la comparación es la voluntad convergente de impugnar, a uno y otro lado del Atlántico, el concepto ilustrado de ciudadanía. ‘A Hellish Nightmare’: The Swedish Press and the Construction of Early Holocaust Narratives, 1945–1950

This study examines how the Swedish press responded to and portrayed the Holocaust immediately after the war. The liberation of the camps, the role and guilt of ordinary Germans, the Nuremberg trials and the ongoing problem of Jewish DPs in Europe were the most important issues on the basis of which the Swedish press had shaped the early post-war view of the Holocaust. Moreover, the fate of the Jews under Nazi Germany formed an important element of such reporting. During the Roman Empire period, the ruler was venerated in many ways. Prostration, proskynesis, referring to the emperor as dominus; adora-tio purpurae; manus velatae; observing the ritual silence; and other rituals were supposed to strengthen the emperor’s authority. During the period of Dominate, the Roman freedom was replaced by etiquette at the imperial court. This article discusses only two examples of veneration of the ruler in the Roman Empire period, namely manus velatae and silentiarii. Lena Constante (1909-2005), escritora de origen rumano, elige la lengua francesa para escribir su testimonio en las cárceles rumanas entre 1950 y 1957. Su vivencia, en un contexto de opresión totalitaria y de injusta acusación, expresa de modo somero las condiciones políticas en las que se produjeron los acontecimientos.
