Thin-layer chromatography of 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid and its soil metabolites

Abstract The thin-layer chromatography of 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid, 4-chloro- o -cresol and 3-methyl-5-chlorocatechol and their pentafluorobenzyl derivatives has been studied on silica gel as adsorbent with 19 solvent systems. The best separation of the individual components occurred with toluene-benzene-acetic acid (2:2:1). Chloroform-diethyl ether-toluene (1:1:1) was suitable for the group separation of the pentafluorobenzyl derivatives.

The behaviour of REEs in Thailand's Mae Klong estuary: Suggestions from the Y/Ho ratios and lanthanide tetrad effects

Abstract The concentrations of Rare Earth Elements and yttrium (REY) were measured in dissolved phase, in suspended particulate matter (SPM) and in sediments in seven sampling stations in the Mae Klong estuarine system (Inner Thailand Gulf) in order to study their behaviour and distribution pattern. The analysed samples generally show high Rare Earth Element (REE) content in the dissolved phase, with high Medium Rare Earth Elements (MREEs) and Y enrichments in the shale-normalized pattern (versus PAAS). Diffusive equilibrium properties of O2 in amorphous SiO2 nanoparticles probed via dependence of concentration on size and pressure

An experimental study on the diffusive equilibrium value of interstitial O2 in silica nanoparticles was carried out on samples with average particles diameter 40, 14, and 7 nm. The investigation was performed by measuring the concentration of interstitial O2 by Raman and photoluminescence techniques. The dependence of diffusive equilibrium concentration on pressure and temperature was investigated in the pressure range from 0.2 to 76 bar and in the temperature range from 98 to 244 °C. Aerobic oxidative condensation of benzylamine to N-benzylidenebenzylamine was carried out on new gold-based catalysts using as support bimodal UVM-7-like mesoporous silica containing Ni and Ce (or Sn) as oxide nanodomains partially embedded inside the mesoporous UVM-7 silica walls. A survey of phytoseiid mites was carried out in the Basilicata region (Southern Italy) between 1976 and 2014 on wild and cultivated plants. A total of 38 species belonging to eleven genera and two subgenera were found on 59 plant species. The most common species was Euseius finlandicus (Oudemans) (39%) followed by Typhlodromus (Typhlodromus) exhilaratus Ragusa (32.2%), Kampimodromus aberrans (Oudemans) (27.1%), Typhlodromus (Anthoseius) cryptus (Athias-Henriot) (23.7%). Typhloseiulus arzakanicus (Arutunjan), found for first time in Italy, is redescribed here, while the male of this species is described for the first time. Hydrodynamic chromatography of macromolecules on 2 μm non-porous spherical silica gel packings

Non-porous spherical 2μm silica gel particles have been tested as packing for hydrodynamic chromatography of macromolecules (HDC). Columns packed with these particles in 250×4.6mm i.d. columns can be operated very efficiently (e.g. a reduced plate height of about 2) when the detection cell is miniaturized. The packing is suitable for the separation of polystyrenes of Mw of 104–107 by hydrodynamic chromatography and the retention behaviour of polystyrenes agrees well with the known theoretical models. Preliminary results on the applicability of HDC for the separation of biopolymers are presented.

Baeyer—Villiger Oxidation in Supercritical CO2 with Potassium Peroxomonosulfate Supported on Acidic Silica Gel.

Supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) is an efficient reaction medium to perform the Baeyer-Villiger oxidation with hydrated silica-supported potassium peroxomonosulfate (h-SiO2.KHSO5) under flow-through conditions. Hydration modulates the reactivity of the active surface by softening the acidity of the KHSO4 present in the supported reagent. The reaction in scCO2 is much more efficient than in n-hexane under similar conditions, which is attributed to better transport and solvating properties of the supercritical medium with regard to n-hexane.

Knowledge of the partitioning behavior of trace elements between solid and liquid is a prerequisite for modern igneous and mantle petrology. Most of the mathematical models simulating melt generation, migration and evolution within the mantle and/or the crust require the availability of reliable solid/liquid partition coefficients for the mineral phases involved in the process. Ligation Tunes Protein Reactivity in an Ancient Haemoglobin: Kinetic Evidence for an Allosteric Mechanism in Methanosarcina acetivorans Protoglobin

Abstract: Protoglobin from Methanosarcina acetivorans (MaPgb) is a dimeric globin with peculiar structural properties such as a completely buried haem and two orthogonal tunnels connecting the distal cavity to the solvent. CO binding to and dissociation from MaPgb occur through a biphasic kinetics. We show that the heterogenous kinetics arises from binding to (and dissociation from) two tertiary conformations in ligation-dependent equilibrium. Ligation favours the species with high binding rate (and low dissociation rate).
