A thermodynamic Gibbs energy minimization (GEM) solid solution-aqueous solution (SSAS) equilibrium model was used to determine the solubility of Zn from calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) phases doped with 0, 0.1, 1, 5, and 10% Zn at a unity (Ca+Zn)/Si molar ratio. Both the stoichiometry and standard molar Gibbs energy (G(o)298) of the Zn-bearing end-member in the ideal ternary Zn-bearing calcium silicate hydrate (CZSH) solid solution were determined by a "dual-thermodynamic" (GEM-DT) estimation technique. K-feldspars in pegmatites from Luc Yen gem mining area, Yen Bai province, Vietnam were studied by X-ray fluorescence, X-ray powder diffraction and the Raman spectroscopy. Chemical analysis determined the K-feldspars in the form of (K0:8909Na0:0388Ca0:002Pb0:0042Cs0:0024Rb0:0338)(Al0:9975Fe0:0053Ti0:0004)Si2:988O8. Both X-ray powder diffraction and Raman spectroscopy indicated Luc Yen K-feldspars as orthoclase phase. Together with the values of Al content of the T1 tetrahedral sites in orthoclase, it is understood that Luc Yen pegmatites are of young ages (Cenozoic) and shallow intrusive types.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the in vitro cytotoxicity of MTA Repair HP, NeoMTA Plus, and Biodentine, new bioactive materials used for dental pulp capping, on human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs).Biological testing was carried out in vitro on hDPSCs. Cell viability and cell migration assays were performed using eluates of each capping material. To evaluate cell morphology and cell attachment to the different materials, hDPSCs were directly seeded onto the material surfaces and analyzed by scanning electron microscopy. EPR study of Ce3+ luminescent centers in the Y2SiO5 single crystalline films

Abstract The work reports results of EPR investigation of the Ce3+ incorporation in the Y2SiO5 and (Y,La)2SiO5 single crystalline films (SCFs), grown by liquid phase epitaxy method. The Ce3+ content determined from EPR spectra varied between 0.49 and 0.65 at. % in Y2SiO5 SCFs and strongly increased up to 1.9 at. % in (Y,La)2SiO5 SCF, suggesting a positive role of the La dopant in the incorporation of the Ce3+ ions into Y2SiO5 host. The EPR study showed the presence of only one type of Ce3+ centers (Ce1) corresponding to the localization of Ce3+ ions in the seven–fold coordinated positions of the Y2SiO5 host. No Ce2 center spectra (six-fold coordinated Ce3+ positions) were detected in films …
Novel silver-based nanoclay as an antimicrobial in polylactic acid food packaging coatings.

This paper presents a comprehensive performance study of polylactic acid (PLA) biocomposites, obtained by solvent casting, containing a novel silver-based antimicrobial layered silicate additive for use in active food packaging applications. The silver-based nanoclay showed strong antimicrobial activity against Gram-negative Salmonella spp. Despite the fact that no exfoliation of the silver-based nanoclay in PLA was observed, as suggested by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and wide angle X-ray scattering (WAXS) experiments, the additive dispersed nicely throughout the PLA matrix to a nanoscale, yielding nanobiocomposites. The molecular interaction of quercetin-3-O-palmitate (QP) with dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine (DMPC) has been studied. Film balance measurements of the average molecular area vs QP molar fraction in DMPC/QP mixed monolayers showed that relevant positive deviations from ideality, i.e., a less dense monolayer packing, occurred for a temperature of 10 degrees C, below the critical melting transition temperature of DMPC monolayers T c m approximately equal 20 degrees C), while ideal behavior was observed at 37 degrees C, above this phase transition temperature.
