Long-term results of the use of silicone sheets after diskectomy in the temporomandibular joint: clinical, radiographic and histopathologic findings

1999

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the long-term results of a group of patients who had the disk of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) removed and permanently replaced by a silicone sheet. The study group comprised 48 patients, treated in the period from 1983 to 1993. In eight patients, the implants had to be removed after an average interval of 5.6 years and they were submitted for histopathological examination. Twenty-five of the 40 patients with silastic implants in place, and five of the 8 patients who had their implants removed, were available for long-term follow-up (mean interval of 7.0 years, SD 2.8 years). Clinical function was rated according to the Helkimo Dysfunction In…

Volatile dimethylsiloxanes in market seafood and freshwater fish from the Xúquer River, Spain

2016

Abstract Volatile dimethylsiloxanes are a family of synthetic organosilicon-compounds, which have received rising attention because of their widespread use and occurrence in the environment. In the present work, an analytical method based on ultrasound-assisted solid–liquid extraction (USAE) followed by gas chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (GC–MS/MS) has been optimized and applied to assess the presence of eight volatile dimethyl siloxanes (VMS) (hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane (D3), octamethylcyclotetra-siloxane (D4), decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5), dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxane (D6), octamethyltrisiloxane (MDM), decamethyltetrasiloxane (MD2M) and dodecamethylpentasiloxane …

Observation of interaction forces by investigation of the influence of eluent additives on the retention behavior of aqueous nanoparticle dispersions…

2020

The investigation and subsequent understanding of the interactions of nanomaterials with components of their surrounding media is important to be able to evaluate both potential use cases as well as potential risks for human health and for the environment. To investigate such interactions, asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation (AF4) is an interesting analytical tool. This statement grounds on the fact that interactions of the analyte with the membrane and with components of the eluent are crucial for the retention behavior of the analyte within the field-flow fractionation (FFF) channel. Therefore, the investigation of the retention behavior provides an insight in the nature of the int…

Stable-bond polymeric reversed-phase/weak anion-exchange mixed-mode stationary phases obtained by simultaneous functionalization and crosslinking of …

2019

Abstract A polymeric reversed-phase/weak anion exchange (Poly-RP/WAX) mixed-mode stationary phase has been prepared by coating of a poly(3-mercaptopropyl)methylsiloxane film on vinyl-modified silica (100 A, 5 μm) and simultaneous in situ functionalization with N-(10-undecenoyl)-3-aminoquinuclidine as well as crosslinking to the vinyl silica surface by solventless thiol-ene double click reaction. Such bonding chemistry showed greatly enhanced stability compared to brush-type analogs with bifunctional siloxane bonding to silica. Solid-state 29Si-CP/MAS NMR confirmed the immobilization of the siloxane layer. pH-Dependent ζ-potential determinations revealed a high anion-exchange capacity over t…

Surface-anchored counterions on weak chiral anion-exchangers accelerate separations and improve their compatibility for mass-spectrometry-hyphenation

2017

In the present work we propose new variants of chiral stationary phases (CSP) with tert-butylcarbamoylquinine (tBuCQN) as chiral selector molecule. Four tBuCQN-CSPs with distinct bonding chemistries are compared in terms of their pH-dependent surface charge by ζ-potential determinations, by achiral and chiral liquid chromatographic tests and LC-ESI-MS hyphenation. In one embodiment tBuCQN was immobilized on 3-mercaptopropylmethylsilyl-modified silica by thiol-ene click reaction (brush type CSP with selector coverage of 0.38mmol/g). In another embodiment, poly-(3-mercaptopropyl)-methylsiloxane was coated onto vinylized silica particles in presence of tBuCQN and radical initiator. The tBuCQN …

A solid device based on doped hybrid composites for controlling the dosage of the biocide N-(3-aminopropyl)-N-dodecyl-1,3-propanediamine in industria…

2015

A colorimetric composite device is proposed to determine the widely used biocide N-(3-aminopropyl)-N-dodecyl-1,3-propanediamine (ADP).This sensing device is based on a film of 1,2-Naphthoquinone-4-sulfonate (NQS) embedded into polydimethylsiloxane-tetraethylortosilicate-SiO2 nanoparticles composite (PDMS-TEOS-SiO2NPs). Semiquantitative analysis can be performed by visual inspection. Digitalized image or diffuse reflectance (DR) measurements can be carried out for quantitative analysis. Satisfactory detection limit (0.018%, w/v) and relative standard deviations <12% were achieved. The proposed device has been applied for the determination of ADP in detergent industrial formulations with reco…

A biostable, anti-fouling zwitterionic polyurethane-urea based on PDMS for use in blood-contacting medical devices.

2020

Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is commonly used in medical devices because it is non-toxic and stable against oxidative stress. Relatively high blood platelet adhesion and the need for chemical crosslinking through curing, however, limit its utility. In this research, a biostable PDMS-based polyurethane-urea bearing zwitterion sulfobetaine (PDMS-SB-UU) was synthesized for potential use in the fabrication or coating of blood-contacting devices, such as a conduits, artificial lungs, and microfluidic devices. The chemical structure and physical properties of synthesized PDMS-SB-UU were confirmed by (1)H-nuclear magnetic resonance ((1)H-NMR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and uniaxial stress-strain cur…

Polydimethylsiloxane (silicone rubber) brooch as a personal passive air sampler for semi-volatile organic compounds

2018

Exposure assessments conducted using a personal sampler include the contribution of human activities to exposure that is neglected when using a stationary air sampler. This study evaluated the uptake characteristics and application of the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS or silicone rubber) brooch as a personal passive air sampler (PPAS) for measuring concentrations of two groups of semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs), namely phthalates and organophosphate esters (OPEs), indoors in proximity to the breathing zone. Uptake rates of the PDMS brooch were calibrated against a personal low volume active air sampler (PLV-AAS) co-deployed on each of five study participants working in offices for 8 hs…

Polydimethylsiloxane composites containing 1,2-naphtoquinone 4-sulphonate as unique dispositive for estimation of casein in effluents from dairy indu…

2015

A unique dispositive to determine casein which is the most abundant protein in dairy sewages has been proposed. In this sensing technology, the derivatization reagent 1,2-naphtoquininone 4-sulphonate (NQS) is embedded into a polydimethylsiloxane-tetraethylortosilicate-SiO2 nanoparticles composite (PDMS-TEOS-SiO2NPs). When the composite is immersed into the samples, casein is extracted from the solution and derivatized inside the PDMS matrix after 10 min at 100°C. The sensing support changes its color from yellow to orange depending on the casein concentration. Quantitative analysis can be carried out by measuring the absorbance with a reflection probe or by image-processing tool (GIMP). Thi…
