Semantic web service discovery system for road traffic information services
2015
Create a multi-agent platform for a traveller information system (FIPA standards).Extend Paulucci algorithm with the use of seven similarity measures.Weight the similarity measure according to semantic relation and parameter nature.Improved running-time with a filtering pre-process for non-functional parameters.Improved the recall by measuring the sibling relationship concepts. We describe a multi-agent platform for a traveller information system, allowing travellers to find the road traffic information web service (WSs) that best fits their requirements. After studying existing proposals for discovery of semantic WS, we implemented a hybrid matching algorithm, which is described in detail …
Towards semantic-based RSS merging
2009
Merging information can be of key importance in several XML-based applications. For instance, merging the RSS news from different sources and providers can be beneficial for end-users (journalists, economists, etc.) in various scenarios. In this work, we address this issue and mainly explore the relatedness relationships between RSS entities/ elements. To validate our approach, we also provide a set of experimental tests showing satisfactory results. © 2009 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg
A Semantic Layer on Semi-structured Data Sources for Intuitive Chatbots
2009
The main limits of chatbot technology are related to the building of their knowledge representation and to their rigid information retrieval and dialogue capabilities, usually based on simple "pattern matching rules". The analysis of distributional properties of words in a texts corpus allows the creation of semantic spaces where represent and compare natural language elements. This space can be interpreted as a "conceptual" space where the axes represent the latent primitive concepts of the analyzed corpus. The presented work aims at exploiting the properties of a data-driven semantic/conceptual space built using semi-structured data sources freely available on the web, like Wikipedia. Thi…
Enriching Didactic Similarity Measures of Concept Maps by a Deep Learning Based Approach
2021
Concept maps are significant tools able to support several tasks in the educational area such as curriculum design, knowledge organization and modeling, students' assessment and many others. They are also successfully used in learning activities in which students have to represent domain knowledge according to teacher's assignment. In this context, the development of Learning Analytics approaches would benefit of methods that automatically compare concept maps. Detecting concept maps similarities is relevant to identify how the same concepts are used in different knowledge representations. Algorithms for comparing graphs have been extensively studied in the literature, but they do not appea…
A NSGA Based Approach for Content Based Image Retrieval
2013
The purpose of CBIR Content Based Image Retrieval systems is to allow users to retrieve pictures related to a semantic concept of their interest, when no other information but the images themselves is available. Commonly, a series of images are presented to the user, who judges on their relevance. Several different models have been proposed to help the construction of interactive systems based on relevance feedback. Some of these models consider that an optimal query point exists, and focus on adapting the similarity measure and moving the query point so that it appears close to the relevant results and far from those which are non-relevant. This implies a strong causality between the low l…
BUCC Shared Task: Cross-Language Document Similarity
2015
We summarise the organisation and results of the first shared task aimed at detecting the most similar texts in a large multilingual collection. The dataset of the shared was based on Wikipedia dumps with interlanguage links with further filtering to ensure comparability of the paired articles. The eleven system runs we received have been evaluated using the TREC evaluation metrics. 1 Task description Parallel corpora of original texts with their translations provide the basis for multilingual NLP applications since the beginning of the 1990s. Relative scarcity of such resources led to greater attention to comparable (=less parallel) resources to mine information about possible translations…
No road is long with good company. What factors affect Ph.D. student’s satisfaction with their supervisor?
2021
PurposeHow frequently may be advisable for a supervisor to meet a PhD student? Are PhD students more satisfied if supervised by someone of the same gender, nationality or with common research interests? Thus far, we lack quantitative evidence regarding similar crucial aspects of managing PhD supervision. The goal of this study is hence to investigate what factors affect Ph.D. students' satisfaction about the professional and personal relationships with their supervisors.Design/methodology/approachWe focus on the characteristics of the interactions between the student and the supervisor, controlling for other important factors, namely, the supervisor's and student's traits, and the character…
A 3D deep learning approach based on Shape Prior for automatic segmentation of myocardial diseases
2020
Accurate three-dimensional (3D) cardiac segmentation from late gadolinium enhancement (LGE)-MRI plays a critical role in designing a structure of reference for diagnosing many cardiac pathologies such as ischemia, myocarditis and myocardial infarction. This segmentation is however still a non-trivial task, due to the motion artifacts during acquisition, and heterogeneous intensity distributions. In this study, we develop a fully 3D automated model based on deep neural networks (DNN) for LGE-MRI myocardial pathologies (scar and No-reflow tissues) segmentation in a new expert annotated dataset. Considering that damaged tissue constitutes a small area of the whole LGE-MRI, we concentrated on m…
Gamma Knife treatment planning: MR brain tumor segmentation and volume measurement based on unsupervised Fuzzy C-Means clustering
2015
Nowadays, radiation treatment is beginning to intensively use MRI thanks to its greater ability to discriminate healthy and diseased soft-tissues. Leksell Gamma Knife® is a radio-surgical device, used to treat different brain lesions, which are often inaccessible for conventional surgery, such as benign or malignant tumors. Currently, the target to be treated with radiation therapy is contoured with slice-by-slice manual segmentation on MR datasets. This approach makes the segmentation procedure time consuming and operator-dependent. The repeatability of the tumor boundary delineation may be ensured only by using automatic or semiautomatic methods, supporting clinicians in the treatment pla…
The Model for Balancing Learning Workload
2015
Abstract It is advised and accepted that teachers carefully plan their lessons thus it is also crucial that there should be guidelines and recommendations on how students should plan their time to study and how much time is necessary to perform certain learning activities. This time management should be taken into account when planning students’ workload and for balancing it. During the research mental representations and approaches were reviewed and their role in the reasoning, as well as within the context of discerning the meaning and similarity. Examples are given for types of statistics and summaries that can help in evaluating the effectiveness and appropriateness of learning material…
