Per un'etica dei processi informativi
2022
This article aims to explore the connection between the conflicts in information policies being observed during the present pandemic situ- ation and the potential abuse of automation technologies in the pro- cessing of information. From a historical point of view, the connection between an effective elaboration of information and the development of automation technologies was devised by authors such as Norbert Wiener, Claude Shannon and Alan Turing, at the very beginning of the modern theory of information. This link with today seems to be justified by historical circumstances that are still quoted in order to discipline and “militarise” the spreading of information during the pandemic. On …

Chern-Simons anomaly as polarization effect
2011
The parity violating Chern-Simons term in the epoch before the electroweak phase transition can be interpreted as a polarization effect associated to massless right-handed electrons (positrons) in the presence of a large-scale seed hypermagnetic field. We reconfirm the viability of a unified seed field scenario relating the cosmological baryon asymmetry and the origin of the protogalactic large-scale magnetic fields observed in astronomy.
Subjugation, freedom, and recognition in Poulain de la Barre and Simone de Beauvoir
2022
In 1949, Simone de Beauvoir cited the fairly unknown author Poulain de la Barre in an epigraph for The Second Sex (1949). When reading The Second Sex, one soon realizes that there are profound similarities between the two authors’ discussions of women’s situation. Both Poulain and Beauvoir view the subjection of women as a process that includes choice as well as force. Liberation necessarily requires overcoming opinions rooted in custom and prejudice. The article develops a comparison between the arguments of Poulain and Beauvoir in order to illuminate interesting features in the works of both authors. The focus is on similarities as well as differences. The first section examines how preju…
The Phylogenetic position of Daubentonia madagascariensis (Gmelin, 1788; primates, Strepsirhini) as revealed by chromosomal analysis
2012
One of the major topics in primate evolution is the phylogenetic position of the bizarre Daubentonia madagascariensis (DMA, aye-aye). The principal points that have been discussed for many decades are whether the aye-aye is: (i) the sister group of primates; (ii) the sister group of strepsirhines; or (iii) the sister group of lemurs. Very little is known about Daubentonia evolution, particularly on the chromosomal background. The present report focuses on the chromosomal history of this species. We used available chromosome painting data as the main source to identify conserved chromosomes, chromosomal segments and syntenic associations that have characterized the aye-aye karyotype. The dat…
On the relation between 2+1 Einstein gravity and Chern Simons theory
1999
A simple example is given to show that the gauge equivalence classes of physical states in Chern Simons theory are not in one-to-one correspondence with those of Einstein gravity in three spacetime dimensions. The two theories are therefore not equivalent. It is shown that including singular metrics into general relativity has more, and in fact a quite counter-intuitive, impact on the theory than one naively expects.
Classical Chern–Simons Mechanics
2001
We are interested in a completely integrable Hamiltonian system \((\mathscr{M}_{2N},\omega,H).\) Local coordinates on the 2N-dimensional phase space \(\mathscr{M}_{2N}\) are denoted by η a = (p, q), a = 1, 2, … 2N and the symplectic 2-form ω is given by

Phylogenetic relationship among genera of Polymorphidae (Acanthocephala), inferred from nuclear and mitochondrial gene sequences.
2013
Abstract Acanthocephalans of the family Polymorphidae Meyer, 1931 are obligate endoparasites with complex life cycles. These worms use vertebrates (marine mammals, fish-eating birds and waterfowl) as definitive hosts and invertebrates (amphipods, decapods and euphausiids) as intermediate hosts to complete their life cycle. Polymorphidae has a wordwide distribution, containing 12 genera, with approximately 127 species. The family is diagnosed by having a spinose trunk, bulbose proboscis, double-walled proboscis receptacle, and usually four to eight tubular cement glands. To conduct a phylogenetic analysis, in the current study sequences of the small (18S) and large-subunit (28S) ribosomal RN…
