Extracting Semantic Knowledge from Unstructured Text Using Embedded Controlled Language

Nowadays, most of the data on the Web is still in the form of unstructured text. Knowledge extraction from unstructured text is highly desirable but extremely challenging due to the inherent ambiguity of natural language. In this article, we present an architecture of an information extraction system based on the concept of Embedded Controlled Language that allows for extracting formal semantic knowledge from an unstructured text corpus. Moreover, the presented approach has a potential to support multilingual input and output.

Automatic Text Complexity Evaluation (ATE) is a natural language processing task which aims to assess texts difficulty taking into account many facets related to complexity. A large number of papers tackle the problem of ATE by means of machine learning algorithms in order to classify texts into complex or simple classes. In this paper, we try to go beyond the methodologies presented so far by introducing a preliminary system based on a deep neural network model whose objective is to classify sentences into more of two classes. Legislative provisions in context: a linguistic approach

The paper takes into consideration legislative provisions from a linguistic point of view. It applies tests of language in a number of texts belonging to the common law drafting practice to ascertain a loss of conceptual focus by legislative drafters and concludes that linguistics can provide a method by which drafters can assess the effectiveness of their draft.
