Synthesis, characterization and thermal properties of nine quaternary dialkyldiaralkylammonium chlorides
2006
Abstract Nine R 2 R 2 ′ N + Cl − (R=benzyl, 2-methylbenzyl, 3-methylbenzyl, 4-methylbenzyl, 2-phenylethyl or 3-phenylpropyl; R′=ethyl or methyl) quaternary dialkyldiaralkylammonium chlorides were synthesized by treating dimethylformamide or diethylformamide with non-substituted or substituted arylalkyl (aralkyl) halide in the presence of sodium carbonate. The 1H NMR, 13C NMR spectroscopy, mass spectroscopy and elemental analysis were used to characterize the synthesized products. The crystal structures of six compounds were determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction. Four of the compounds crystallized in monoclinic space groups C2/c and P21/c (or P21/n), one in triclinic space group P−1…
Breaking the semi-quinoid structure: spin-switching from strongly coupled singlet to polarized triplet state.
2014
2,7-TMPNO (4,5,9,10-tetramethoxypyrene-2,7-bis(tert-butylnitroxide)) was found to exist in semi-quinoid form with unprecedented strong intramolecular magnetic exchange interaction of 2 J/kB = 1185 K operating over a distance of 10 A. Structural transformations with the activation energy of ΔEeq = 949 K were observed by varying the temperature, from more quinoid structure at low temperature to more biradicaloid structure at higher temperature. Moreover, this molecule undergoes a transient spin transition from singlet to polarized triplet state upon photoexcitation revealed by TREPR spectroscopy. The spin Hamiltonian parameters were determined to be S = 1, g = 2.0065, D = -0.0112 cm(-1), and …
Asymmetric Synthesis of Dihydropyranones with Three Contiguous Stereocenters by an NHC‐Catalyzed Kinetic Resolution
2021
An oxidative NHC-catalyzed kinetic resolution (KR) of racemic mixtures is presented. The developed reaction furnishes tricyclic dihydropyranones with three contiguous stereocenters in excellent dia- and enantioselectivity, with good-to-moderate yields. Mechanistic studies indicate that the rate-determining step of the reaction is the formation of the Breslow intermediate, while the selectivity determining step occurs later in the mechanism. The presented methodology enables rapid synthesis of complex structures in a single step.

<title>Spatial correlation of latent image centers active in photostimulable luminescence of irradiated doped alkali halides</title>
2001
Changes in the photostimulated luminescence (PSL) spectrum of an electron irradiated KBr:Tl single crystal in relation to the A-luminescence spectrum upon direct activator ion excitation in the A-absorption band (AL) are found. Based on the view about the spatial correlation between F and activator hole centers, it is suggested that anion vacancy is an additional perturbing factor fot he activator (Tl+) excited (p-electron) state which is already subject to the dynamical Jahn-Teller effect. Dependences of the PSL efficiency on activator (In+) concentration in KBr:In samples irradiated by UV-light (6.30-6.45 eV), X-rays (30 keV or electrons (5.6 keV), are compared. The possible role of 6.45 …
A Diferrous Single‐Molecule Magnet
2007
The diferrous complex [Fe2(acpypentO)(NCO)3] (1),(acpypentO– = the anion of 1,5-bis[2-pyridyl(1-ethylimino)]pentane-3-ol) was studied by spectroscopic (dual-mode X-band EPR and 57Fe-Mossbauer) and magnetic (AC magnetic susceptibility) techniques. Complex 1 (A. K. Boudalis et al., Inorg. Chem.2004, 43, 1574) was previously shown to exhibit an intramolecular ferromagnetic coupling with important single-ion anisotropies with marked differences in the single-ion electronic parameters of the two iron sites. In this contribution, additional studies are carried out to probe its dynamic magnetic properties. Mossbauer spectra recorded at liquid helium temperatures indicate slow paramagnetic relaxati…
Analysis of Active-Site Distribution in ZSM-5 Crystals by Infrared Microscopy
1993
Abstract The acid Site distribution over large ZSM-5 crystals was analyzed using FTIR microscopy. Results of the analysis of the OH-stretching vibrations and of vibrations of pyridine adsorbed on Bronsted and Lewis acid sites were found to be in good agreement. The resolution which can be obtained using this novel technique is about 10-20 μm. This limits the application to large crystals as analyzed in this study. Comparison of the results of IR microscopy with aluminum distributions obtained by electron microprobe analysis revealed that IR microscopy cannot resolve inhomogeneities on a scale smaller than the above-stated limits. The results of both methods on a larger scale, however. are i…

Formation of HXeO in a xenon matrix: Indirect evidence of production, trapping, and mobility of XeO (1 1Σ+) in solid Xe
2004
IR spectroscopy, laser induced fluorescence (LIF), and thermoluminescence (TL) measurements have been combined to monitor trapping, thermal mobility, and reactions of oxygen atoms in solid xenon. HXeO and O(3) have been used as IR active species that probe the reactions of oxygen atoms. N(2)O and H(2)O have been used as precursors for oxygen atoms by photolysis at 193 nm. Upon annealing of matrices after photolysis, ozone forms at two different temperatures: at 18-24 K from close O ...O(2) pairs and at approximately 27 K due to global mobility of oxygen atoms. HXeO forms at approximately 30 K reliably at higher temperature than ozone. Both LIF and TL show activation of oxygen atoms around 3…
Synthesis, structure and biological properties of several binary and ternary complexes of copper(II) with ciprofloxacin and 1,10 phenanthroline
2009
In this study, a new binary complex [Cu(HCip) 2 ](NO 3 ) 2 · 6H 2 O ( 1 ) has been synthesized and then characterized by X-ray structure analyses. In this compound, each ciprofloxacin acts as a bidentate ligand resulting in a crystallographically planar configuration; the nitrate anions are located in apical positions with an axial distance significantly larger than the equatorial distances, which would be consistent with a very weak metal ion interaction due to the Jahn–Teller effect. In addition, both the synthesis and characterization of two new ternary complexes of ciprofloxacin–copper(II)–1,10-phenanthroline, [Cu(phen)(Cip)](NO 3 ) · 4H 2 O ( 2 ) and Cu(phen)(HCip)(NO 3 ) 2 · H 2 O (…
