Comparison of two different approaches for harmonic distortion sources assessment

2021

The paper focuses the attention on the comparison of two approaches for power quality assessment in the electric grid. Both approaches are suitable for investigating the harmonic pollution source and discovering if the harmonic source comes from the customer or the utility grid. The two approaches have the same purpose but they are deeply different. The first approach is based on the knowledge of the customer and utility equivalent impedance while the second is based on single point measurement at point of common coupling PCC. In this paper, the advantages and drawbacks of the two approaches are investigated also supported by a case study.

Expressing digression linguistically: Do digressive markers exist?

2009

Abstract This paper analyzes the relationship between digressions and topic shifts in the light of the Spanish marker por cierto . Against the standard explanation, which takes digression as a well-established linguistic operation, digression is regarded as a rhetorical operation, underspecified at the linguistic level. The most conspicuous trace of digression, the so-called digressive markers , cannot be distinguished from topic shifters on the basis of the instruction provided by the marker alone. Thus, both types of markers should be grouped together as a single class, that of “new relevant information markers” (NRIMs). The perceived differences between topic shifters and digressive mark…

Detection, validation, and downstream analysis of allelic variation in gene expression.

2009

AbstractCommon sequence variants within a gene often generate important differences in expression of corresponding mRNAs. This high level of local (allelic) control—or cis modulation—rivals that produced by gene targeting, but expression is titrated finely over a range of levels. We are interested in exploiting this allelic variation to study gene function and downstream consequences of differences in expression dosage. We have used several bioinformatics and molecular approaches to estimate error rates in the discovery of cis modulation and to analyze some of the biological and technical confounds that contribute to the variation in gene expression profiling. Our analysis of SNPs and alter…

Messenger RNA Sequencing of Rare Cell Populations in the Lung and Lung-Draining Lymph Nodes

2017

Next-generation sequencing (NGS) techniques provide unique prospects for in-depth transcriptome analyses. Nevertheless, the emerging and still growing knowledge about the large diversity and heterogeneity of cells that participate in immunological responses in a tissue- and micromilieu-specific manner calls for advanced isolation and sequencing methods for the accurate quantification of gene expression in small cell populations and even individual cells from any organ or tissue. One of the major limitations in performing transcriptome analyses of rare cell populations was and still is quality and quantity of RNA that often limits analyses of complex mixtures of immune cell populations. Here…

Performance evaluation of the MPE-iFEC Sliding RS Encoding for DVB-H streaming services

2008

This article studies the performance of the Sliding RS Encoding (SRSE) in the transmission of streaming services in DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting - Transmission System for Handheld Terminals) networks. The SRSE forms part of a set of specifications called MPE-iFEC which has been recently defined in the DVB-SH (Digital Video Broadcasting - Satellite Services to Handheld Devices) standard and is fully compatible with the link layer of DVB-H. MPE-iFEC is capable of encoding information related to different datagram bursts in a jointly manner in order to counteract the long signal blockages expected in satellite reception. This is what is usually referred to as Multi-Burst Encoding (MBE) an…

Increasing the performance of HSDPA with high-speed single frequency network

2012

High Speed Single Frequency Network (HS-SFN) is a multi-cell transmission scheme for High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) that can assist user equipment (UEs) in the softer handover area by combining signals from two neighbouring cells and at the same time by reducing the inter-cell interference. This article analyzes performance of HS-SFN for macro cell scenario under different channels with different type of schedulers by means of extensive system level simulations. The results indicate that HS-SFN can increase throughput for UEs in softer handover area from 40% to 80% without decreasing the overall performance.

Human genetic polymorphisms and risk of viral infection after solid organ transplantation.

2021

The immune system plays a key role in the host defense against viral pathogens. A signaling cascade is activated upon infection involving a variety of molecules such as pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs), interleukins or antiviral interferons. Long-term immunosuppression after solid organ transplantation (SOT) mainly abrogates adaptive T-cell-mediated responses, thus highlighting the relative contribution of innate immunity. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within genes coding for PRRs or soluble mediators have been associated with differential susceptibility to viral infections among SOT recipients. A protective effect against cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection or disease has been att…

Cryobiopsy as a New Tool for Complications Diagnosis During Follow-up After Lung Transplantation: Single Institution Case Series

2020

ABSTRACT Background The first description of performing a new diagnostic procedure, cryobiopsy, in lung transplant recipients in Poland. Methods Three cases of patients after lung transplantation were analyzed in context of the procedure of cryobiopsy, which was performed in a hybrid room with a bronchoscopic video track and C-arm radiograph. Patients were subjected to complete anesthesia and intubated. Two or three sections with an average diameter of 5 mm were collected. Results The sections were large and fully diagnostic. In all 3 described cases they brought a decisive element into diagnosis. Conclusions Cryobiopsy is a useful tool in the differential diagnosis of lesions and complicat…

Progression of transthyretin (TTR) amyloidosis in donors and recipients after domino liver transplantation-a prospective single-center cohort study

2018

Liver transplantation (LT) is the first-line therapy in patients with transthyretin (TTR) amyloidosis and progressive familial amyloid polyneuropathy (FAP). Explanted organs from these patients can be used for domino liver transplantation (DLT). After DLT, de novo amyloidosis may develop in domino recipients (DR). Data were collected prospectively in a transplant database. Electroneurography by nerve conduction velocity (NCV), quantitative sensory testing, heart rate variability (HRV), sympathetic skin response, orthostatic reaction (tilt table test), transthoracic echocardiography, cardiac MRI and organ biopsy results were evaluated. The cohort included 24 FAP- (11 Val30Met, 13 nonVal30Met…

Ferromagnetic copper(II)–copper(II) interaction in a single chlorido and dicyanamido bridged mixed–valence copper(I/II) 2D polymer generated by in si…

2015

A mixed-valence 2-D Cu(I/II) complex, [{Cu(II)(dmen)(μ-Cl)(μ1,5-dca)}{Cu(I)(μ1,5-dca)}]n (1) (dmen = N,N-dimethylethylenediamine, dca = dicyanamide = [N(CN)2]−), has been synthesized by in situ partial reduction of Cu(II) to Cu(I) using benzoin (2-hydroxy-1,2-di(phenyl)ethanone) as reductant. Complex 1 was characterized by spectroscopic techniques, single crystal X-ray diffraction, and low temperature magnetic measurements. Structural investigation reveals that 1 represents a mixed-valence 2-D coordination polymer formed by parallel 1-D [Cu(II)(dmen)(Cl)Cu(I)(μ1,5-dca)2]n chains running along the b axis, where chloride bridges Cu(II) ions of adjacent polymers through long connections (2.840…
