Experimental study of electron transport in mesoscopic carbon based nanostructures

In this thesis we have studied experimentally electronic transport in mesoscopic hybrid polypyrrole-gold devices and single multiwalled carbon nanotube devices. A novel fabrication technique for mesoscopic conducting hybrid polymer-gold films has been developed. The hybrid polymer-gold films have been fabricated by electrochemical deposition of polypyrrole on a gold nanoisland layer. Temperature dependence of conductance show that the dominant transport mechanism in the polypyrrole-gold films is variable range hopping in the temperature range from 20 K to 300 K. Occurrence and removal of organic pollutants in sewages and landfill leachates

Sewages of different composition and the effluents of four sewage treatment plants (STPs), plus sewage sludges were analysed for semivolatile organic priority pollutants. Furthermore, 11 landfill leachates were analysed to evaluate their contribution to sewage pollutants when co-treated. Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) was the pollutant occurring at highest concentrations (up to 122 microg/l) and it was present in all sewages and leachates; concentrations of other phthalates were usually below 17 microg/l. AbstractAu@Fe3O4 Janus particles (JPs) are heteroparticles with discrete domains defined by different materials. Their tunable composition and morphology confer multimodal and versatile capabilities for use as contrast agents and drug carriers in future medicine. Au@Fe3O4 JPs have colloidal properties and surface characteristics leading to interactions with proteins in biological fluids. The resulting protein adsorption layer (“protein corona”) critically affects their interaction with living matter. Tooth size discrepancy in a Libyan population, a cross-sectional study in schoolchildren

Objetives: The aim of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the tooth size discrepancy (TSD) in a group of Libyan schoolchildren, and to compare TSD between sexes. Material and Methods: The sample comprised 333 Libyan schoolchildren (162 males with a mean (SD) age of 14.4 (1.1) years, and 171 females with a mean age of 14.1 (1.1) years). Anterior and overall TSD ratios were computed using descriptive statistics. Sex differences were statistically assessed using an independent t-test ( P 0.05). Abstract The development of a new comprehensive two-dimensional liquid chromatographic method is described, to obtain the profiles of polyphenolic compounds present in olive (Olea europaea L.) leaves and pulps from different genetic origin. Use of OCs has been associated with lower myofibrillar protein and tendon collagen synthesis rates, but it is unknown whether OCs will limit the adaptive response of myotendinous tissue to resistance training.
