A survey on geometrical reconstruction as a core technology to sketch-based modeling
2005
In this work, the background and evolution of three-dimensional reconstruction of line drawings during the last 30 years is discussed. A new general taxonomy is proposed to make apparent and discuss the historical evolution of geometrical reconstruction and their challenges. The evolution of geometrical reconstruction from recovering know-how stored in engineering drawings to sketch-based modeling for helping in the first steps of conceptual design purposes, and the current challenges of geometrical reconstruction are discussed too.
Introduction: Situatedness and Place
2018
Over the last two or three decades, the spatio-temporal contingency of human life has become an important topic of research in a broad range of different disciplines including the social sciences, the cultural sciences, the cognitive sciences, and philosophy. Significantly, however, this research topic is referred to in quite different ways: While some researchers refer to it in terms of the “situatedness” of human experience and action, others refer to it in terms of “place”, emphasizing the “power of place” and advocating a “topological” or “topographical turn” in the context of a larger “spatial turn”. In this chapter, we will first give a short introduction to place and situatedness as …

Blockchain Technology: Principles and Applications
2016
This paper expounds the main principles behind blockchain technology and some of its cutting-edge applications. Firstly, we present the core concepts at the heart of the blockchain, and we discuss the potential risks and drawbacks of public distributed ledgers, and the shift toward hybrid solutions. Secondly, we expose the main features of decentralized public ledger platforms. Thirdly, we show why the blockchain is a disruptive and foundational technology, and fourthly, we sketch out a list of important applications, bearing in mind the most recent evolutions.

The Dynamics of the Global Multinationals: Determinants of New Global Configurations and New Management Challenges
2018
During the last few decades, the complex interplay between (the process of) globalization and (the evolution of global) multinationals has radically changed both the architecture of the global economy and the characteristics of their main players – the global multinationals; new configurations have emerged, while new complexities have replaced them, in unprecedented (in terms of speed, breadth, and depth) manners, adding new valences to the challenges firms and their strategists are confronting nowadays. The aim of the paper is to identify (some of) the most significant shifts that have marked the dynamics of the global multinationals during the last two decades, in order to sketch the new …

THE OLIGARCH AND THE PAINTBRUSHES: A BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF ANDREU GARCIA, PRIEST = EL OLIGARCA Y LOS PINCELES: BREVE SEMBLANZA DEL PRESBÍTERO ANDREU…
2014
The documents regarding the Valencian priest Andreu Garcia († November 1452) show a quite interesting character. Garcia’s family belonged to local oligarchy. Moreover, he had a substantial income related with the Cathedral. He had contact, too, with Carthusians, Observant Friars and probably with Beghards (the books of his library suggest this last idea). Garcia took part, as an intermediary or as a sponsor, in many artistic orders that involved the best workers and the best customers of the city. Besides, he had a strong relationship with painters like Simó Llobregat, Jaume Mateu, Gonçal Sarrià and Joan Reixac. The priest could also have practiced painting, judging by the belongings that w…
Epäkerrotun mahdollisuuksia Elina Hirvosen romaanissa Että hän muistaisi saman
2012
The possibilities of the disnarrated in Elina Hirvonen’s novel When I Forgot Anna, the character-narrator of When I Forgot (2005), a debut novel by Elina Hirvonen, spends the present-day of the novel sitting in the cafes and remembering the past. She works through some traumatic events and embarrassing situations, and speculates what could have happened. Her unrealized desires, fantasies etc. constitute what Gerald Prince calls the disnarrated. As delineated by Prince, the disnarrated refers to those events that remain unrealized though they are given as possible or actual elements of the narrative. It can fulfill various functions of which the present article examines its possibilities as …
