The Gulf of Patti and its onshore sector represent one of the most seismically active regions of the Italian Peninsula. Over the period 1984–2014, about 1800 earthquakes with small-to-moderate magnitude and a maximum hypocentral depth of 40 km occurred in this area. Historical catalogues reveal that the same area was affected by several strong earthquakes such as the Mw = 6.1 event in April 1978 and the Mw = 6.2 one in March 1786 which have caused severe damages in the surrounding localities. Slope units-based flow susceptibility model: using validation tests to select controlling factors

A susceptibility map for an area, which is representative in terms of both geologic setting and slope instability phenomena of large sectors of the Sicilian Apennines, was produced using slope units and a multiparametric univariate model. The study area, extending for approximately 90 km2, was partitioned into 774 slope units, whose expected landslide occurrence was estimated by averaging seven susceptibility values, determined for the selected controlling factors: lithology, mean slope gradient, stream power index at the foot, mean topographic wetness index and profile curvature, slope unit length, and altitude range. The geometric characteristics of incised features such as channels, rills, ephemeral gully, gully, represent the erosional transport regime and the fluvial dynamic equilibrium, and thus it is critical for the understanding of the long-term evolution of natural, agricultural, and anthropogenic landscapes. This paper examines the morphological similarity of channelized erosion in two different environments such as Alpine landscapes and cultivated hillslopes. Se realizó un estudio taxonómico de los hidrozoos de la familia Aglaopheniidae colectados sobre fondos blandos del Caribe colombiano entre 20 y 500 m de profundidad en marzo de 2001 por la expedición INVEMAR MACROFAUNA II. Fueron encontrados dos géneros y seis especies destacándose Aglaophenia elongata, A. lophocarpa y A. tridentata como nuevos registros para aguas colombianas y además se amplió la distribución batimétrica de Aglaophenia latecarinata y A. tridentata. Cretaceous slopes are well known from many regions of the world, since they are among the most prone depositional systems to host hydrocarbons. As far as Italy, in spite of fully described examples as the Majella and Gargano escarpments, detailed sedimentological and biostratigraphic studies from Sicily are not available, although the presence of slope carbonates of Cretaceous age in northwestern Sicily, is mentioned in several papers dealing with regional geology or geological mapping. The reduction of pore water pressures is one of the most effective measures that can be taken to stabilise landslides or to improve the stability conditions of marginally stable water-bearing slopes. To this end, draining trenches have been used long since. When deep trenches are needed, the usual conventional construction techniques fail and recourse must be made to secant piles or to adjacent vertical panels built by means of the methods well established for diaphragm walls. However, unbonded materials cannot be used, since the excavation of a panel adjacent to previously built ones will instabilise these latter.
