The aim of this thesis is to study the processes of emergence, structuring and mutation of an ancient urban network from the end of the Protohistory to the beginning of the Middle Ages in a micro-region located on the edge of the ancient éduens, lingons and séquanes territories, the Saône Valley. This area is characterized by a density of Gallo-Roman small towns with an amount and a high quality of data unequalled in Gaul, as a result of ancient and recent research. The present paper reports the results of a simulation study regarding the impact of the adoption of heat pumps for domestic hot water production in the island of Lampedusa (Italy). This dissertation investigates expatriate IT workers located in Japan in the contexts of their acculturation and thinking about workplace and business negotiations. Case studies of individual actors supported by surveys were chosen as the methods to gather data leading to findings about how expatriates develop in Japan, including their ability to adjust, accept, and reject schemata about business management situations. Empirical analyses of European intellectual property rights institutions

This dissertation consists of introduction chapter and five empirical studies on European intellectual property rights institutions. Chapters 2, 3 and 4 are micro-level studies and the perspective shifts to macro-level in Chapters 5 and 6. Chapters 2, 3, 5 and 6 analyze two-tiered patent systems and Chapter 4 focuses on design rights. Chapter 2 analyzes the choice between patent and utility model protection among German firms. The results indicate that larger firms are more likely to use both protection methods and that a short life cycle of products and services is associated with an increased likelihood to use utility models. Tässä tutkimuksessa tutkitaan Suomen korkeakoulujen johdon laskentatoimen käytäntöjä. Tutkimus on osa opetus- ja kulttuuriministeriön (OKM) kanssa yhteistyössä toteutettavaa hanketta. Vuonna 2005 OKM teetti edellisen vastaavan tutkimuksen, jossa keskityttiin yliopistojen kustannuslaskentaan johtamisen ja tilivelvollisuuden välineenä. Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin eri yliopistojen kustannuslaskennan tilaa ja muodostettiin yleisiä suosituksia hyväksi havaituista käytännöistä. Vuoden 2005 tutkimus keskittyi yliopistoihin, mutta tässä tutkimuksessa on otettu myös ammattikorkeakoulut mukaan. Strategies for promoting neural regeneration are hindered by the difficulty of manipulating desired neural fates in the brain without complex genetic methods. The subventricular zone (SVZ) is the largest germinal zone of the forebrain and is responsible for the lifelong generation of interneuron subtypes and oligodendrocytes. Here, we have performed a bioinformatics analysis of the transcriptome of dorsal and lateral SVZ in early postnatal mice, including neural stem cells (NSCs) and their immediate progenies, which generate distinct neural lineages. Abstract Comparisons were made of the osmotic and cryoprotective effects on rabbit embryos preserved by vitrification with 2 solutions and by conventional freezing. Embryos obtained from rabbits killed 70 to 72 h after mating were used in the study (n = 948). Initially, toxicity of the 3 cryoprotectants was studied in fresh (unfrozen) embryos (n = 135). Subsequently, embryos placed in ethylene glycol (EG, 40% v/v; n = 88) and ethylene glycol with dimethyl sulfoxide (EG+DMSO, 20% v/v each, respectively; n = 344) were loaded into straws and plunged directly into liquid nitrogen.
