Study of smartphone suitability for mapping of skin chromophores.

2015

RGB (red-green-blue) technique for mapping skin chromophores by smartphones is proposed and studied. Three smartphones of different manufacturers were tested on skin phantoms and in vivo on benign skin lesions using a specially designed light source for illumination. Hemoglobin and melanin indices obtained by these smartphones showed differences in both tests. In vitro tests showed an increment of hemoglobin and melanin indices with the concentration of chromophores in phantoms. In vivo tests indicated higher hemoglobin index in hemangiomas than in nevi and healthy skin, and nevi showed higher melanin index compared to the healthy skin. RFID epidermal sensor including hydrogel membranes for wound monitoring and healing

2015

This contribution experimentally demonstrates for the first time the feasibility of joint application of passive UHF RFID technology and hydrogel membranes to fabricate smart plasters able to gather and remotely transmit information on the conditions of human skin. In particular, this intelligent plaster is sensitive to temperature and fluid uptake/release and could open interesting scenarios in wound healing monitoring and drug delivery.

Smartphone snapshot mapping of skin chromophores under triple-wavelength laser illumination

Abstract Chromophore distribution maps are useful tools for skin malformation severity assessment and for monitoring of skin recovery after burns, surgeries, and other interactions. The chromophore maps can be obtained by processing several spectral images of skin, e.g., captured by hyperspectral or multispectral cameras during seconds or even minutes. Splitting of Surface-Immobilized Multicompartment Micelles into Clusters upon Charge Inversion

International audience; We investigate a morphological transition of surface-immobilized triblock terpolymer micelles: the splitting into well-defined clusters of satellite micelles upon pH changes. The multicompartment micelles are formed in aqueous solution of ABC triblock terpolymers consisting of a hydrophobic polybutadiene block, a weak polyanionic poly(methacrylic acid) block, and a weak polycationic poly(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) block. They are subsequently immobilized on silicon wafer surfaces by dip-coating. Smart High-κ Nanodielectrics Using Solid Supported Polyoxometalate-Rich Nanostructures

Utilizing Langmuir-Blodgett deposition and scanning probe microscopy, we have investigated the extent to which cations alter the self-assembly processes of hybrid polyoxometalates (POMs) on surfaces. The well-defined 2D hexagonal nanostructures obtained were extensively characterized and their properties were studied, and this has revealed fascinating dielectric behavior and reversible capacitive properties. The nanostructures are extremely stable under ambient conditions, and yet exhibit fascinating self-patterning upon heating. These findings present POMs as effective smart nanodielectrics and open up a new field for future POM applications. (c) 2011 American Chemical Society.

Large deflection of magneto-electro-elastic laminated plates

Abstract A model for the large deflection analysis of magneto-electro-elastic laminated plates is derived. The first order shear deformation theory and the von Karman stress function approach are employed. A set of resolving partial differential equations involving kinematical variables and the stress function is obtained as a consequence of the preliminary condensation of the electro-magnetic state to the plate kinematics. A closed form solution for simply-supported plates is presented. Numerical results are carried out for plates consisting of piezoelectric BaTiO 3 and piezomagnetic CoFe 2 O 4 layers.
