Perché le teorie liberali moderate non devono temere la behavioral economics o la heuristics and biases psychology

2021

In this article I will explain the content of soime cognitive bias and the content of liberal theories. I will argument that people commit less cognitive errors than Conly and others think. Secondly, some behaviours that Conly and others think are cognitive bias are not. Finally, it is clear in the studies of Kahneman and Tversky that the majority of cognitive bias are not incorrigibles (in the correct sense of this word)

Tabaquismo activo y pasivo en personas adultas que viven con una pareja del mismo sexo en España

2018

Abstract Objective To assess the association between current active and passive tobacco smoking and living with a same-sex partner in Spain. Methods We analysed data from two cross-sectional national surveys of the Spanish population 15 years and older (2011-Encuesta Nacional de Salud en España and 2014-Encuesta Europea de Salud en España). Analyses included only people living with their partner. Associations were calculated using multiple logistic regressions adjusting for gender, social class and age. Results Current active and passive smoking were significantly associated with living with same sex partners (odds ratio: 2.71 and 2.88), and particularly strong among women. Conclusions Span…

“Smoke, Choline-Acetyl-Transferase, Muscarinic Receptors and fibroblast proliferation in COPD

2009

Acetylcholine (ACh), synthesized by choline acetyltransferase (ChAT), and muscarinic M1, M2, and M3 receptors (MRs) are involved in fibroblast proliferation. We evaluated ChAT, MRs, and extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) 1/2 and nuclear factor (NF) κB activation in lung fibroblasts from patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), control smokers, and controls. Human fetal lung fibroblasts (HFL-1) stimulated with interleukin (IL)-1β, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, and cigarette smoke extracts (CSEs) were evaluated for ChAT and MR expression. We tested the effects of ACh on fibroblast proliferation and its ability to bind fibroblasts from patients with COPD, control s…

Technical Note: Sensitivity of 1-D smoke plume rise models to the inclusion of environmental wind drag

2010

Abstract. Vegetation fires emit hot gases and particles which are rapidly transported upward by the positive buoyancy generated by the combustion process. In general, the final vertical height that the smoke plumes reach is controlled by the thermodynamic stability of the atmospheric environment and the surface heat flux released by the fire. However, the presence of a strong horizontal wind can enhance the lateral entrainment and induce additional drag, particularly for small fires, impacting the smoke injection height. In this paper, we revisit the parameterization of the vertical transport of hot gases and particles emitted from vegetation fires, described in Freitas et al. (2007), to in…

In vitro contamination of hair by marijuana smoke.

2004

Abstract Background: The deposition of cannabinoids on/into hair from environmental smoke can be considered as a potential source of drug findings in hair. We studied external uptake of cannabinoids from marijuana smoke, investigating possible influencing factors on drug uptake and the efficiency of decontamination procedures. Methods: Strands of a natural hair sample were moistened with water, greased with sebum or sebum/sweat, or bleached or permed. Treated and untreated samples were exposed to marijuana smoke for 60 min. Aliquots of each hair strand were either kept unwashed or were washed with methanol, dichloromethane, or 5 g/L dodecyl sulfate in water. Cannabinoid concentrations in un…

A methodology for fire data analysis based on pattern recognition towards the disaster management

2015

The aim of this paper is to investigate a proposed strategy for fire disaster analysis that is implemented based on pattern recognition technique in order to achieve a methodology for disaster management. Since the fire hazard has severe effects onto human and properties, it is essential to predict and possibly prevent it. Almost every fire produces some issues, such as heat, smoke, gas, and flame, which are sensible and measurable via devices or detection systems. The fire behavior is relevant to these issues. In this research, temperature, heat radiation, and visibility (smoke) data of fire that have been obtained from Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) are used for analysis. The location of t…

Contributions to risk assessment in the departments of welding mechanical engineering companies

2017

The risk assessment professional should cover every activity and every workstation in an enterprise engineering, considering each component of the production system (the system working), each duty, work equipment and working environment. This represents an extremely complicated and complex problem because of production system that is a powerful polluting technology, especially of the atmosphere and soil. The formation of gas welding process is the result of electrodes burning, fluxes, and development of bath fused metal the welded seam. In welding processes, human operators are exposed to smoke and toxic gases, arising from the welding process, which can be dangerous to health. Many acute i…

Impact of dust and smoke mixing on column-integrated aerosol properties from observations during a severe wildfire episode over Valencia (Spain)

2017

The most destructive wildfire experienced in Spain since 2004 occurred close to Valencia in summer 2012. A total of 48.500ha were affected by two wildfires, which were mostly active during 29-30 June. The fresh smoke plume was detected at the Burjassot measurement station simultaneously to a severe dust episode. We propose an empirical method to evaluate the dust and smoke mixing and its impact on the microphysical and optical properties. For this, we combine direct-sun measurements with a Cimel CE-318 sun-photometer with an inversion methodology, and the Mie theory to derive the column-integrated size distribution, single scattering albedo (SSA) and asymmetry parameter (g). The mixing of d…

Exposure of heat-not-burn tobacco effect on the quality of air and expiratory plume

2021

Abstract The increasing interest to avoid the consumption of regular tobacco has lead in the development of several types of devices to decrease the effects of this practice on active and bystanders. In this work, the impact of the use of new heat-not-burn (HnB) devices has been evaluated and compared with that of regular cigarettes and electronic cigarettes (e-cigs). Portable monitoring devices were employed for CO, CO2, particulate matter (PM) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to evaluate the quality of indoor air and expiratory plume of both, active and passive, users during these practices. It can be noticed that the levels of VOCs in active HnB smokers expiratory air are five times…

Empirical estimates of the radiative impact of an unusually extreme dust and wildfire episode on the performance of a photovoltaic plant in Western M…

2019

Abstract We have estimated the radiative impact produced by an unusually extreme dust and wildfire episode on the performance of a photovoltaic (PV) plant. The dust and wildfire events were mostly active on 26–28 and 29–30 June 2012, respectively. We took advantage of the consecutiveness of both events to separate and derive empirically the radiative effect of dust and smoke aerosols. With this purpose, we employed measurements of aerosol load, radiation and PV power output from a collocated atmospheric station and PV plant located at Burjassot (Valencia, Spain). The empirical estimates were obtained by direct comparison with a summer background day, happened right before the two consecutiv…
