Polyamines are small aliphatic cationic molecules synthesized via a highly regulated pathway and involved in general molecular and cellular phenomena. Both mammalian cells and microorganisms synthesize polyamines, and both sources may contribute to the presence of polyamines in the circulation. The dominant location for microorganisms within the body is the gut. Accordingly, the gut microbiota probably synthesizes most of the polyamines in the circulation in addition to those produced by the mammalian host cells. Noradrenaline (NA) 1 microM and caffeine (CAF) 10 mM induce a contractile response in isolated rat aorta maintained at 37 degrees C either in the presence or absence of extracellular calcium. In Ca-free media the contractile response was reduced and contractile activity of CAF only occurred at 25 degrees C. NA induced a biphasic response in Ca-free medium, with a fast phasic contraction followed by a smaller more sustained contraction. The response induced by CAF consisted of a fast transient contraction which returned to a level below the resting tone. Immunoexpression of p53 in cutaneous and subcutaneous leiomyosarcomas.

The diagnosis of malignancy in cutaneous and subcutaneous smooth muscle tumors is based on subtle criteria. Therefore, any ancillary technique useful in this differential diagnosis is always welcome. In this report, we study the immunoexpression of p53 in 19 malignant smooth muscle tumors of the skin (15 cutaneous leiomyosarcomas, 2 subcutaneous leiomyosarcomas, and 2 cutaneous metastases of leiomyosarcoma), as well as in 1 leiomyoma with cellular atypia, therefore complementing a previous study on p53 immunoexpression in leiomyomas of the skin. In addition the resulting quality of erection, measured as maximal intracavernous pressure (pCC) versus peak systolic blood pressure (BP), was weaker in castrated dogs (pCC = 57% of BP on average) than in noncastrated dogs (pCC = 80% of BP on average).
