<i>Background:</i> Esophagectomy for motility disorders is performed infrequently. It is indicated after failed medical therapy, pneumatic dilation, non-resecting surgical and redo procedures. Regression of structural vascular changes in hypertensives after captopril treatment.

In order to investigate whether hypertension-related structural vascular changes may be influenced by antihypertensive treatment, 10 patients were studied suffering from essential arterial hypertension, five males and five females, aged between 34 and 61 years (mean age: 46.9 +/- 8.13 years). All patients received a placebo for 1 week and then captopril, 75 mg b.i.d. for 3 months. Immunohistochemical characterization of endometriosis-associated smooth muscle cells in human peritoneal endometriotic lesions

SMC have been characterized previously in peritoneal, ovarian and deep infiltrating endometriotic lesions and adenomyosis. Hedgehog signaling and primary cilia are required for the formation of adult neural stem cells.

Neural stem cells that continue to produce neurons are retained in the adult hippocampal dentate gyrus. The mechanisms by which embryonic neural progenitors expand and transform into postnatal neural stem cells, an essential process for the continual production of neurons throughout life, remain unknown. We found that radial astrocytes, the postnatal progenitors in the dentate gyrus, failed to develop after embryonic ablation of ciliary genes or Smoothened (Smo), an essential component for Sonic hedgehog (Shh) signaling. Relaxation of human isolated mesenteric arteries by vasopressin and desmopressin.

The effects of vasopressin and deamino-8-D-arginine vasopressin (DDAVP, desmopressin) were studied in artery rings (0.8-1 mm in external diameter) obtained from portions of human omentum during the course of abdominal operations (27 patients). 2. Effects of dantrolene on the responses to methylxanthines in the isolated guinea-pig trachea.

The effect of dantrolene on the responses to methylxanthines (caffeine and theophylline) and a beta-adrenoceptor agonist (salbutamol) was studied in isolated guinea-pig trachea. Caffeine and theophylline (1 microM-10 mM) and salbutamol (1 nM-10 microM) produced concentration-dependent relaxation of spontaneous and stimulated (acetylcholine 1 mM) tone.
