Shoulder muscle activation during stable and suspended push-ups at different heights in healthy subjects.

Abstract Objectives To analyze shoulder muscle activation when performing push-ups under different stability conditions and heights. Study design Comparative study by repeated measures. Setting Valencia University laboratory. Participants 29 healthy males participated. Main outcome measures Subjects performed 3 push-ups each with their hands at 2 different heights (10 vs. 65 cm) under stable conditions and using a suspension device. Urban shrinkage became a central issue in both the scientific debate and the political agenda of several European cities. According to EUROSTAT data (2019) about 40% of European cities with more than 200000 inhabitants are losing population. A shrinkage that is more explicit in a progressive underutilization of the built heritage as well as in the concomitant increase of abandoned areas. In this controversial framework of structural mutation of the city urban policies in Europe try to decline the degrowth as a strategic opportunity to invest in green areas in order to increase urban quality and to act simultaneously on the development of local economies. With respect to the above framework this contribution focuses on the evaluation of the effects that the project of new public green spaces have generated on some sample areas on the outskirts of the city of Palermo. An urban context where according to the latest Svimez Report (2019) the phenomenon of urban shrinkage represents a constantly growing trend and on which the new Master Plan operates through a revival of interventions on environmental capital and urban green areas of the city.Settore ICAR/21 - Urbanistica

A theoretical study of the low-lying states of the anionic and protonated ionic forms of urocanic acid

A multistate second-order perturbation theory (MS−CASPT2) study of the lowest lying states in the electronic spectra of urocanic acid in vacuo is presented. The anionic trans and cis isomers, as well as the biologically important trans protonated ionic structure, are considered. The vertical and 0−0 excitation spectra were computed for each system at the MS−CASPT2/ANO-L level, describing the lowest lying ππ* and nπ* singlet and triplet states. In all three systems, a weakly absorbing ππ* singlet state was observed at ∼4.0 eV in the vertical excitation spectrum, suggesting both a novel assignment and an alternative explanation for the previously described wavelength dependent photochemistry …

Inhibition by cellular vacuolar ATPase impairs human papillomavirus uncoating and infection.

ABSTRACT Several viruses, including human papillomaviruses, depend on endosomal acidification for successful infection. Hence, the multisubunit enzyme vacuolar ATPase (V-ATPase), which is mainly responsible for endosome acidification in the cell, represents an attractive target for antiviral strategies. In the present study, we show that V-ATPase is required for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and that uncoating/disassembly but not endocytosis is affected by V-ATPase inhibition. A theoretical study of the electronic spectrum of cis-stilbene

Abstract The valence and Rydberg electronic excited singlet states of cis -stilbene have been studied using multiconfigurational second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2). The study includes a geometry determination of the ground state. The geometry of the lowest 1 B state has also been optimized, leading to a structure where the two benzyl groups are nearly perpendicular. The calculated vertical spectrum is in agreement with the occurrence of three main bands in the observed one-photon absorption spectrum. Diferrocenyl oligothiophene wires: Raman and quantum chemical study of valence-trapped cations

A combination of Raman spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations is used to describe the structural and spectroscopic properties of the different isomeric cations of diferrocenyl quaterthiophenes. Isomerisation of the thienyl β-positions provides site selective oxidation, which gives rise to species that can interconvert by moving the charge over the bridge. The spectroscopic study allows us to describe a sequence of stationary trapped cationic, either ferrocenyl or thienyl, states which constitutes an energy cascade of accessible sites through which the charge transfer can proceed.

Electronic Excitation in a Saturated Chain:  An MS-CASPT2 Treatment of the Anti Conformer of n-Tetrasilane

The singlet−singlet electronic spectrum of the anti conformer of n-tetrasilane has been studied using multiconfigurational wave functions (CASSCF), second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2), and its multi-state extension (MS-CASPT2), in conjunction with large ANO-type basis sets including Rydberg functions. The calculations include the 4s, 4p, and 3d members of the Rydberg series converging on the first ionization. Mixing of valence and Rydberg states observed in the CASSCF wave functions is not fully rectified by single-reference CASPT2 theory, whereas the MS-CASPT2 method separates the valence and Rydberg states effectively. Interaction of valproic acid and some analogues with microsomal epoxide hydrolase.

Abstract Valproic acid (VPA) and its analogues valpromide (VPM), valproyl-Coenzyme A (VP-CoA) and valproyl-ethylester (VPE) were examined as potential inhibitors of microsomal epoxide hydrolase (mEHb) using styrene-7,8-oxide (STO) and benzo(a)pyrene-4,5-oxide (BPO) as enzyme substrates. The effect of each potential inhibitor was examined using mEHb from rat liver, human livers (from a child, woman and man) and from human placenta. Of the compounds tested, only VPM (2 mM) expressed significant inhibition of mEHb activity with a maximum inhibition of 49%, 48%, 35% and 33% for liver microsomes from the child, woman, man and rat, respectively, using STO (2 mM) as substrate.
